NEWS Broncos to field star studded Nines team

I love the nines and in terms of injury they happen at training, preseason games and regular season games. Can’t avoid them.

But the injury factor is significantly increased in the nines when it comes to playing up to 6 games in two days.

Seibold has formally asked the NRL permission to select Corey Parker:

“We’re awaiting approval from the NRL but we’ve asked for Corey to be part of our Nines squad. If he is approved, which we expect, he will wear jersey No.18 and get some limited game time. It was my idea - I asked him if he would be keen to play. We have two commitments that weekend. We have a trial in Central Queensland and there’s the Nines tournament, so our roster is stretched and I thought a veteran like Corey Parker could offer something to the group at the Nines. Corey is still in great shape. They are only short games so he may not get a lot of minutes, but I like the idea of Corey mentoring the guys. He is doing work with our middle-forwards this year so Corey’s experience for the younger blokes will be invaluable.”

Brodie Croft will be in the squad. Kurt Richards (assistant coach) will take charge of the team and we will do some specific Nines preparation from next Monday. The players know who is going and I’m keen to see young guys like Jesse Arthars, Tesi Niu, ‘Izzy’ Perese and Herbie Farnworth. We want to go over there and give a good account of ourselves. It will be exciting for our supporters to see the young talent coming through at our club.”

‘Izzy’ Perese this guy is the 1 I'm looking forward to seeing play hes perfect for the torment. Big strong fast he could be top try scorer I reckon.

So based on the team we're sending up to Rocky and the guys still working their way back from injury (Oates, Staggs, Kahu, Palasia, O'Sullivan)

This is the 17 man squad we could be sending to Perth -

Backs - Isaako, Coates, Farnworth, Perese, Niu, Arthars

Halves - Milford, Croft, Dearden

Hookers - Turpin, Paix

Forwards - Glenn, Parker, Haas, Lodge, Fifita, Flegler

If we send this side we may be unbackable favourites. That is one hell of a side

We're currently the favourites at $5.50

Don't mind those odds..

Get ready for the afterburners to flame on – the Broncos have gone with speed, class and youth for their assault on the NRL Nines in Perth next week.

The Broncos have not mucked around when choosing their team for the flagship event in the Western Australian capital.

This is no development player or second-rate squad – the Broncos have gone with the fastest and best players to suit the format of the game.

Big names Anthony Milford, David Fifita, Alex Glenn, Payne Haas and new recruit Brodie Croft provide plenty of class to the 18-man squad.

But get ready for the afterburners to go on – the Broncos have picked some of the quickest young players at their disposal for the two-day event.

Nines specialist Jamayne Isaako, who starred for the Kiwis at last year’s World Nines, will be complemented by Tongan international Tesi Niu, Herbie Farnworth, Xavier Coates, Jesse Arthars and Fijian flyer Ilikena Vudogo.

Corey Paix, Tom Dearden and Jake Turpin will provide direction and will be dangerous in their own right.

There are a couple of big mobile forwards in Thomas Flegler and Ethan Bullemor.

And, possibly one of the most exciting things for Broncos’ fans, will be the opportunity to see new club captain Glenn and former skipper Corey Parker go around together again.

Parker has come out of his three-year retirement to play a role in the shortened format of the game for his beloved Broncos.

The veteran pair round out a squad that has certainly caught the eye of the bookies – Broncos’ partner Ladbrokes has already installed them as one of the favourites to win the Nines event in Perth.

And with their squad selection the Broncos have signaled that is their intention for this tournament.

So it's who I predicted except with Vudogo & Bullemor in, Lodge out.

Fair enough, I don't think Lodge is exactly suited to the Nines format.

Warming up and warming down so much would definitely increase fatigue within players
The games are tiny compared to a regular game, it would be like 5 games in the 9s equal one real game at best, and given the interchange allowed in the nines its honestly less then that.

Ladbrokes has the Broncos as joint second favourites with Souths at $7 behind Parramatta ($6). Melbourne are paying $9.

Looks like their Firsts team.
