Broncos Vrs Eels match thread.

Man, the admins are gonna lock the shit outta this thread when they see it.

Which sucks, I really want this thread to stay open so that everytime Wallace performs well (as he did on Saturday night) I can remind Coxy and co.

Lol this thread has turned into a big argument.

Regardless of all that - Wallace is a very good player, I reckon he'll kill it again this week with Lockyer out for origin duty. His defence is awesome for a guy his size, he puts his body on the line and is more then capable of coming up with a good play to win a match. I do however agree with Coxy that he could be more consistent, seriously when Wallace is at his best we are a much better team.

tkday - Yeah it was Winter and Yow Yeh, annoyed the shit out of me, felt like every set we were struggling to get out they would run out of dummy half and make a metre or two! Most times we got lucky because Folau being awesome as he is would take a dummy half run and make 15+ metres. Which reminds me, we really miss Hodges, his dummy half running is a huge benefit to the team.

Admins please don't lock this thread.

And a swift move by Broncospwn saves this thread from the brink of death.

Veer off topic so drastically again and it will be locked immediately.

I don't get why they were running out of dummy half to only make a metre or two? What the frig was going through their minds? I like Yow Yeh a lot, but frig me he always has a few retarded things he does in a game. And Winter is getting the same. I think Winter should be dropped in the coming game if he doesn't pick up his act, not sure why IH keeps him in. He was willing to throw Sims back to QC for bad form. Anyways, I am not the coach and I definitely don't see all the details properly. I'm just blinded by my Kemp love so much that I want him in desperately :)

I think you will find Ivan is just giving Kemp a few more games in QLD cup before unleashing him on the NRL!! He will be back!!

The Broncos have, for years, used wingers to take settling dummyhalf runs when working it out of trouble. I remember Darius Boyd was savaged here for his ineffective centring dummyhalf runs that only made a couple of metres at a time.

The whole point of those runs is to give the forwards a bit of time to get back ready to rumble up. The problem is in the last 2 weeks the forwards haven't shown the energy or urgency to get back and then rumble forward.

This is where I hope the enthusiasm of McGuire and Anderson will help this week. Hopefully that will rub off on the other guys that seem to have dropped their intensity in the last fortnight.

I doubt that making 1 or 2 metres is a tactic... anyways it didn't work for them this game.

they did start using that Tactic with guys like Sailor and Hancock who were much bigger and stronger than they guys we currently have on the wings

 No shit.

Although the point of them is not so much make heaps of forward metres, more so to get out of the corners (as most teams kick to the corner).

It's structure more than anything else. It's unfortunate, but that is the way our game is these days. Everything is planned, rehearsed and drilled into the players. Very rarely will you see any ad lib footy.

Every single team in the NRL does it. Even from taps deep in their own halves teams will often begin the set with two dummy half runs from the outside backs.

Coxy, I've been saying for a while now that the tactic using the wingers to take those couple of hitups could be improved if the players were instructed to NOT RUSH those initial hitups. With the way they currently are performing they buy barely a few seconds , less than 5 or 6 ,with those first 2. They can double that time with a deliberate ploy of the tackled player rising slower than normal but not obviously to all viewing. A slow play the ball is only mentioned during commentary, it's not remarked on further than that.

The defence in these situations is most often set and makes the runner an easy target and as most here have said makes barely 2 metres. The runner has no support making it super simple to target him. With double the time and at least 2 or 3 other runners it's little different that the 20 metre restart. Under that scenario, irrespective of whomever takes the first hitup, more than 2 metres is made.

The other benefit is this, a settled set, say from a tap restart will most often gain much bigger metres than one from the aforementioned scenario. Normally, if done well we don't have a settled type set until the 4th or fifth tackle, most often the 1st or 2nd time a forwards had his go.Most of the time the set is never settled and results in poor ground gained and a hurried unplanned kick.
Little is gained by playing fast in this area I believe. It's possible to improve the stats.
