Bronze statue of Darren Lockyer to join one of rugby league 'king' Wally Lewis at Suncorp Stadium

THANKS Queensland ... your wholehearted support of The Sunday Mail's "Put Locky On A Pedestal" campaign means Maroons great Darren Lockyer will join King Wally Lewis and be immortalised in bronze outside Suncorp Stadium.

The State Government has given the go-ahead to build a statue of the Roma superstar following a groundswell of support for our campaign, which attracted thousands of emails and letters from fans.

The Government will pay half the estimated $65,000 cost. The Sunday Mail is delighted to contribute the rest.

I love Locky but I think a statue is a little premature. Would like to see what he does outside league first. But hey it's still hella cool.

Leaving out the discussion of who the greatest Qld player is or was, I don't think there's any doubt about Lockyer's service to Broncos, Qld and Australia.
IMO, he doesn't need to prove anything else as he has achieved more than any other player ever has for his club, state and country, and fully deserves his statue next to King Wally.

Leaving out the discussion of who the greatest Qld player is or was, I don't think there's any doubt about Lockyer's service to Broncos, Qld and Australia.

I agree. Plus how can he have a statue built on the back of one Origin game? Not to mention there probably isn't enough bronze in the world to build him.
