Both The Courier Mail and Brisbane Times are reporting the white knight David Kemp won't be following through with the rescue package. They have until the end of the week to come up with the money.

I'll be shattered if they go down. What a fucking tradgedy.

I saw this morning on the telly that the Sydney Kings are on death's door again too. Not that I'd be upset to see them go but the NBL is seriously on life support.

Basketball just gets no corporate support in this country. It's not helped by the fact no free to air network wants to give it decent coverage either. For years it either wasn't shown at all or was limited to a 1 hour highlights package once a week.

I fear basketball in this country is dead.

Thats sad. I feel for the basketballers that not only play for Brisbane but also for the youngins trying to crack the NBL. I remember when the Bullets were really popular (I used to do cheerleading/acrobatics for them) and they would get great crowds, more people knew who the players were and were generally more interested in the game. Even back then though, you would have to stay up till about midnight to watch a game.

I agree Coxy, Australian Basketball is definately dying. Why is it though, that more wasn't done before?

But we want to save them ... not run them into the ground [icon_wink

Beachy he said PHC not George Piggins [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

Damn shame if this happens, Kemp should be held accountable for gaining the licence under false pretences etc

Just reading on the Courier Mail site and Groves said he still holds the license. Kemp pulled out while completing the 'due diligence' process.

Basketball is competing with too many other sports, thus it doesnt get much of a look in. Netball is the same when it comes to television coverage!

To be honest I would watch lawn bowls over these two sports haha

Yes but you also drink Strawberry Daquiris so have no credibility [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

I beg to differ as basketball is played in summer up against Cricket and soccer only, agree re the lack of TV coverage being a major issue, but netball on the other hand is booming at present and at least 2 or 3 games are shown a week live on Fox, and I will admit even I have watched a game or 2 of that lately. Netball finally got a decent sponsor and the results speak for themselves. Should tell the bosses at work to withdraw their sponsorship deal for the worst stadium in Australia and instead buy the Bullets!!!

Surprised Matt hasn't offered to forgo his bullets season membership in exchange for buying the team. They would convert to about the same wouldn't they [icon_wink [icon_lol1.

Foxtel are showing all 69 game of the ANZ Netball Championship Live!

The promoters of the new comp really need to be comended. The publicty they have generated is fantastic. The NBL really needs to take a leaf out of their book. I've followed the Firebirds for a number of years, and have gone from last year having a few 100 people at game at Chandler to selling out the Convetion centre this year. I admit thier good form (and Romelda Aitken) has contributed to thier sucess but gee it's been some turn around.

The NBL jsut doesnt have the balls to act. They would prefer to stick thier head in the sand and act like nothing is wrong and life off the past glories. They dont play by the rule "If it aint broke, dont fix it" They play by the rule "If its broke, lets jsut see how it goes, it might fix it self. It used to be a great product!"

Eddy Groves was the Bullets saviour 9 years ago, but he really didnt do much for basketball in Brisbane. I'm a hard core Bullets fan and I had to always search high and low to check when games were on. There was no promotion.
The Bullets only promoted two games last year. The Grand Final Replay between Melbourne and the Clash between a Cairns team which included NBA bound boom rookie Nathan Jawai. Both those game sold out. The support is out there. And it's such a family friendly and enjoyable event. I've never been with anyone to an NBL game who didnt enjoy themselves and want to go back.

Australian Basketball is a great product it just need to be managed better

Spot-on Broncomatt. I've never been HUGELY into basketball, but I've gone to the Bullets on around 3 occassions over the past few years and had a FANTASTIC time.

I honestly think better coverage and promotion would really lure me to more matches...

It doesn't help when they only get a weekly summary of a match highlight on FTA TV. Basketball is one of few 'world' sports out there and yet is failing miserably in Australia. Perhaps if the entire system had a massive revamp with new teams like the old NSL had with A-League then we could see it grow once again. (Or perhaps wait for Australia to win gold in the Olympics..)

BroncoMatt summed it up perfectly. Being from the south coast of NSW I've grown up a Hawks fan and I've had a ball every time I've gone to the Sandpit to watch a game.

It would be a tragedy if the NBL was allowed to die the slow and painful death that seems imminent

Saw this morning on Fox Sports that Glen "Battered Sav" Saville has decided to end his Benedict Arnold-like show of treachery and return to the Hawkies due to the Kings demise - if that's not a positive for the NBL I don't know what is!
