In a sense nothing much has changed. Still need to be better by the length of the straight to overcome the bias.

TBH I think a lot of people misread 1990 for the Broncos, though the Broncos were comprehensively beaten by the Raiders in the finals and dealing with the drama between Lewis and the club. The Broncos finally showed the real potential, consistency, mentally tougher and defensively better during the regular season that was severely missing in the previous two seasons that saw them finish 2nd on the ladder going into the finals.

Brisbane Broncos first ever win against Balmain came in 1990

Ahh... Hauff, Johns... what a team of legends.,

Paul Hauff, one of my alltime favourite Broncos player despite how short his career was. outstanding in 1990 and the 1991 SOO series but sadly was never the same after needing total shoulder reconstruction surgery.

Clubman of the year - Ray Herring

I have a 1990 season book that was given to me, pretty cool, I was born in 88 so clearly that was a phase of the club that I never really got to experience

That Manly finals win doesn't get the credit it deserves- got flogged by Penrith the week before and Izzard destroyed Kevvie.

Penrith exposed the Broncos that year and showed all the flaws- round 20 and the finals. They just weren't tough enough yet against the big boys.

To come back and keep Manly try-less was exceptional. No Dowling and Shearer just before kickoff. Easily Alf's worst season probably until 99 and Wally going on. Backo played no football too. The defence that day to keep them to 6-4 for the last 20 minutes was great defence.

The 11 wins in a row was great football, but then they finished the year with two losses and two wins and lost momentum then lost to Penrith again in the finals.

It was a slow start to the year with seven points up to round eight and Wally injured, TC gone for the year. I remember the win at Newcastle, everyone out- TC, Jackson, Hancock and They won that game then 11 in a row.

The reserve grade win and the emergence of Carne and Hauff and the Manly finals win were the highlights for me.

Went to my first NSWRL game in 1990 - Brisbane vs Illawarra at Lang Park.. Broncos won 36-6 and I vaguely remember Alan Langer stealing the ball in a tackle and either scoring himself or handing off for someone else to score. It was at a time when I think you could steal the ball regardless of how many were in a tackle

great memories - as a kid (even now) there’s nothing like that buzz of laying eyes on a major sporting arena for the first time and just taking everything in.. 👀

Not a game from 1990 but rather 1991, but this is an entertaining and probably the Broncos best game in a rather inconsistent and disappointing season for the Broncos. Steve Renouf has an absolute blinder scoring 4 tries.

Funny thing is Wally spent a lot of his junior career playing lock, personally I would have loved to have seen things have been different between the Broncos and Wally and to see him having finished his career at the club(Though the Broncos did have valid reasons for the decisions they made and I can't blame Wally not being happy with it).

I uploaded the full replay that came with the Broncos Heritage DVD set.
