And I'm not even gonna bother elaborating on Melbourne and the massive damage that club, its coach and its captain have wraught on this comp in the past 10 years.

The fact is Cameron, as great as your career has been from a player point of view, you have irreversibly sullied your legacy with antics that frankly leave little room for respect. Fancy having an image among Queenslanders that isn't all that far off Andrew Johns or Jarryd Hayne.

All you have to do though is look at Lockyer. He was despised by NSW due to his contribution to QLD dominance, he was part of the most successful NRL team at the time of his retirement, he basically had every record that Smith now holds. When it actually came to his retirement almost everyone respected him, NSW included. When it comes to Smith, forget about NSW, most of QLD thinks he’s a dickhead.

I think he took up until the last minute to make his decision because he was trying to get it done if he could. Can you really imagine a player saying I will retire but wait until April so it really stuffs up Queensland this year?

No I don't buy in to any idea that he retired because he thought they wouldn't win. When a winning era spans just that a whole era your retirement will coincide with the end of the winning. When did Warne, McGrath, Hayden retire? At the end of the 'winning.'
