So it's popping up around the place, so here's the thread.

Is Sam Thaiday a good captain?

Personally, I think since he's been given the captaincy, he has been absolutely hopeless for the team. He doesn't seem to push the team, doesn't seem to speak to them, certainly doesn't lead his forwards by example.

Tonight for example. Set after set he was always walking back (not even backwards) to the line when the team needed to move forward.

I think he needs to be dropped from the team, and the captaincy given to Parker. Parker gives his all, he's a Bronco through and through, he's passionate, and he is actually deserving of it.

Hell, Prince was talking to the team more tonight!

Don't know about dropped, we don't have much in the way of replacements but yes captaincy to Parker.

Then you find someone, or you grab a young guy who's prepared to give his all just to be in the team. Not the lazy prick that knows he gets automatic selection week in week out, and knows he will get the nod next week whether he plays well or not.

I don't think the board would ever allow their coach to drop him though. It would be one of the most embarrassing things they've done.

Glenn can wait, Parker will be gone in a couple of years and he can have it then.

This is a difficult situation to rectify because stripping the club captaincy from a player is no small matter, it's a fcuking big call ... Has the potential to drive a wedge through a playing group and would put the new recipient in a very awkward spot..

You could drive a truck through our defence, a wedge would be an improvement.

Besides, drop Thaiday to reserves, give Parker captaincy, when Thaiday pulls his finger out and plays well he can come back on the bench without the captaincy. No awkwardness that way.

Fortunately it's a pretty easy decision to explain. DVD copies of each match for the past few seasons. If they still disagree, they don't know enough about football to be playing it anyway.

How good is it having our captain flat on his feet taking a breather in back play.

I was watching him after every try scored against us and it didn't look like many were listening to what he was saying.

Sammy was one of my favourite players when he first started playing in the NRL for us, and I was forever championing him!

I haven't seen tonight's game, but ever since he got the captaincy, his form has really dropped. I'm not sure if he's 'serious' enough to be our captain TBH... I don't know him personally, but he strikes me as being a bit of a joker, and whilst that may work for other teams, I don't think it does for us, especially because most of side is full of young, impressionable fellas.

Agree that a hard call may need to be made if what was dished out tonight doesn't improve massively. In which case, keeping an eye on the future, I would give the captaincy to Glenn. This has nothing to do with Parker being deserving of it or not btw, I just think Glenn is captain material and would offer stability for the long term.

It is a massive call for the club to make. I can't see Hook making that decision. I also don't think Thaiday as captain is our biggest issue. I'd say we have plenty of issues.

Parker should have the 'C' against his name for mine. He's far more inspiring than Sam at the moment.

penrith stripped lewis of the captaincy last year and look how that turned out.

regardless, thaiday settled down in life and with that his footy went soft. give him the captaincy and he's lost the argo. now he's just a pedestrian out there. provides nothing to inspire the side. get out there and do everything you can to get your troops motivated. i mean we seem like we've given up when we're only 8 pts down in a game with 25 mins to go.

i dont know how much parker would WANT the captaincy. if its something he really wants give it to him. if it doesnt concern him too much then i'd give it to glenn as i reckon he has a bigger influence over some of the younger guys in the side.

Glenn for captaincy

Thought this at the time when it was up for grabs.

Thaiday was/is a mistake.

Not surprising to hear him admit (somewhere apparently) that he was "drowning" with the captaincy role last year......

He's got this season, if he fails, then Glenn can have the captaincy.

Just hoping that last night's game was a reflection of his slow pre-season.

His slow pre-season, or the entire squads slow and what seems to be useless pre-season?

Nah, although that would be a nice excuse for some of them.

Thaiday, Reed & McCullough all had serious operations during the pre-season and didn't really start full training until late January/early February. It's not really surprising to see 2/3 start slowly.

Don't think the others deserve that excuse, although in some cases I thought some of those players don't need them.
