INJURED

LATEST JUDICIARY

Everyone in good shape for the holidays.

Do these suspension preclude them from playing in trial matches too? If so if the name them for a couple of trial games it would help, but I seem to remember it only works that way for Sydney teams.

Lets wait and see if Latrell has the trials counted towards his suspension

Fatima Kdouh in today's CM says Piakura returns in round 2 against the Bulldogs.

He's missed his two games. Knights and Jets was his suspension. He played 73 minutes against Tweed week one and five minutes against Bears in the prelim.

Doesn't impact the Broncos too much but Ethan Quai Ward's broken wrist continues to cause him problems.

So we signed on another busted player? That said, MCL might not even mean he misses any footy.

He’s not signed yet. He won’t miss any games but when you’re trying to get a deal- month out is difficult.

Brisbane Broncos Head of Performance Dave Ballard has provided an update on players recovering from injuries during preseason.

Pat Carrigan underwent surgery after his 2021 season was cut short by a ruptured ACL in Round 9 against the Cowboys.

Ballard said Carrigan’s rehab is on track for him to return in time to play trial games early next year.

"Pat has been integrated into a reasonable amount of skills and contact in this block of training before Christmas," said Ballard. "He’s got a great work ethic and is tracking well for the trials in February."

Young prop Xavier Willison is also coming back from a ruptured ACL after making his first three NRL appearances late in the 2021 season.

“Xavier has started to rehab run now – he’s about 15 weeks post-ACL operation,” said Ballard. “He’s running well, and doing everything that’s required – he’s a very good trainer."

Strike centre Kotoni Staggs has made a full recovery from his MCL injury, which he sustained in the Round 20 win over the Cowboys, as has prop Payne Haas who underwent surgery on both of his ankles at the start of the offseason.

Ballard said: “Kotoni and Payne have returned from their offseason injuries in good shape and are now in full training.”

Forwards Jordan Riki and Keenan Palasia are also both on their way back after each having shoulder surgery.

Ballard said Riki’s recovery was on track: “Jordan is returning from a shoulder operation and has worked incredibly hard throughout his rehab. He has been doing non-contact skills for a couple of weeks now and will start some return to contact later in January.

“Keenan has completed the majority of preseason training so far and has just been limited with some of his contact. He will be in full training post-Christmas."

Playmaker Albert Kelly has had some minor disc issues with his back during the preseason, but has almost returned to full training.
