City V Country

I now love City-Country. It always seems to throw up players who really shouldn't play Origin in to the spotlight, putting the selectors under pressure to pick them.

This year it was perfect. Reynolds will hopefully sit on the sidelines for enough weeks to mean he misses Origin I, that way NSW have to select Maloney, and of course Pearce alongside him. And do so for the rest of the series.

In all honesty I think Reynolds will be struggling to make first grade within 2 or 3 years time. He isn't the best 6 at his club and he is being overtaken be most 6's in the game.

This bullshit that he carries on with like tripping, stupid aggression and all the other rubbish is imho a player that got massively over rated early in his career and is now watching that career slowly disintegrate in front of his own eyes

And don't we just LOVE watching it happen

Reynolds facing a week.

Charmed life.

How is that only a Grade One Tripping Offence?

He just about kicked him and has priors.

I don't even mind because Reynolds is an average talent but sick of the judiciary setting lenient punishments for players.

that must be too harsh, because Bulldogs fans would have you believe the NRL and Greenburg are always picking on them

Fifita's definetly getting back his form, NSW are insane if they don't pick him, hopefully they pick the worlds biggest pillow in Tamou instead.

Aaron Woods has that one easily covered...

They're both NSW'ers who wouldn't make the QLD side, but If someone put a gun to my crotch to choose I'd probably pick Woods over Tamou going on recent form.

Have you guys watched many Tiger's games this year? Woods is not the powderpuff he once was. He's playing great this year

Aaron Woods would be loved on here if he was a Bronco

Certainly is, but I don't think he's transferred it to the Rep arena personally. You have to pick him though, maybe this is his year.

It's a shame Josh Reynolds had to go and spoil what was otherwise a fun afternoon of footy. Outside of the odd comment about Austin's hat-trick, you'd seldom hear anything else other than Reynolds lashing out with the boot and his later shoulder charge. I've already said my piece about Reynolds in the Grub Reynolds thread but the way he just spoiled the momentum for his side was disappointing. He's a better player than that and if he cut that crap out and focused on his running game and kicking game he'd be a lock for the Blues five eighth spot.

Anywho, thought the game summed up modern League pretty well. City tried to play footy and shot themselves in the foot sometimes, while Country were very methodical and were just able to make the most of their opportunities. I reckon Freddy's camp would have been more enjoyable, but would have preferred to have been a Country boy for the post-game.

Talking Points

James Maloney - Thought he started slowly but warmed his way into the match. Don't know if it's the type of performance I take to the bank because it was more about the opposition than himself. The one positive is that his last tackle kicking on the line was really good and that's something you can count on in Origin.

Blake Austin - Everyone has a soft spot for ol' Stone Cold and he has a knack of popping up at the right place at the right time but beyond that, he didn't impress me. He mostly played second banana to Reynolds and the few times he stepped up he let himself down with his kicking game or just didn't make the most of it. 3 tries is nothing to sneeze at, but this talk of him playing Origin is rich.

The Dan Tupou Flick - Beautiful, that try definitely belongs on the highlight reel for 2015.

The City Rookies - Lost track of the amount of times Gilbert flaunted the age of City. "The oldest player is 27!" Yeah yeah yeah, all well and good and I'm sure it'll do those players some good moving forward but I think it spoiled the party somewhat for the rest of the team. The City bench was clearly outclassed by Country's and Blake was exposed pretty badly in this.

The Country Bench - Thought they really made a difference. In particular Mitch Rein who has really stepped up ever since he hasn't had to play the full 80. It just simplifies his game and allows him to focus on his strengths. Thought Vaughan put his hand up, albeit it as Merrin's understudy and the likes of James and Sims had their moments as well.

The City Props - I thought they'd make all the difference but I really only saw one passage where Fifita threatened to do so. It's frustrating with Andrew - clearly he has all the tools to challenge Bromwich as the best prop in the game but he'll just come up with these Dave Taylor type plays that make you shake your head. If I had to pick between him, Tamou and Klemmer for the NSW bench, I'd go Fifita but it has to be off the bench.

Austin definitely shouldn't play in the halves for NSW, but he'd possibly be great off the bench.
