TIM Sheens has quit as Wests Tigers coach following a revolt from his players.

He reached a settlement with the club yesterday to walk away after 10 years at the helm.

Sheens told Tigers players and officials yesterday afternoon he was no longer going to be involved at the club, and speculation immediately turned to him possibly switching to the New Zealand Warriors.

It is understood Sheens reached a compromise payout agreement regarding the final two years of his contract.

Bit late for the players that had to leave.

Hope the Tigers get a coach that doesn't insist he is called Coach.

Though it is his fault, as he let the players run the club.

About time, he's been useless for ages.

Tigers sound like an absolute basket case, Humphreys needs to go as well as a few others.

Players leaving in droves to make way for nuffies like Blair and Kite, reminds me of offloading our whole forward pack after 08 for duds.

If what Paul Kent says is true this is exactly what the Tigers need. Too many cliques within the club has the place divided.

I am not sure he was ever useful. I could have coached that early 90's raiders team to a premiership. When he went to cowboys it showed how good a coach he really was. Same with the 05 tigers: Scott Prince at his peak and Benji not so worried about being on tv they killed it.

I'm sure at the raiders all he did was pump up the foodies for Belcher, Meninga, Stuart, Daley, Lazarus and Walters to run training sessions.

Agree completely with Jester. Bennett is a past legend. Hasler, Bellamy great current coaches. Sheens is a never was.

Basket cases indeed !!

There's talk on Foxsports this morning though that says the Tigers say he might not be leaving after all ???

It's amazing how poorly the Tigers have been since winning the premiership in 05 & how Sheens has strayed from what made that side so successful. I don't remember the game caring so much about a club's spine until the 05 victory and their attempt to justify the quality of the side. Yet, since 09, the Tigers haven't stuck with a 'proper' fullback, instead sticking to Moltzen & Ryan aka utilities. Considering the surplus of quality fullbacks in the game, it's amazing the Tigers haven't been in the hunt for somebody and didn't chase a Gerard Beale or somebody of that ilk.

Back to 05, Sheens deserves credit for that turn around. He bought reasonably well (Prince, Hodgeson, Richards, Whatuira etc.) and blooded the bulk of the young talent (Marshall, Farah, Heighington, Halatau etc.) that played such an important role in the win. He exploited the quicker play the ball with superior dummy half runners (an exploit their grand final opponents were good at too with Payne, Faiumu & Jensen in particular standing out) & cultivated their confidence that every part of their game (attack, defence) was sound.

The problem is, he just over-stayed his welcome. He should have been shown the flick by 08 and unfortunately the Tigers are paying for his poor coaching with some very questionable signings over the past couple of months.

They still have plenty of good quality talent coming through (as evidenced by their NYC grand final appearance & SG Ball victory) but they should be ahead of where they're at.

Now, if you want to be critical about Sheens, you should take a look at what he did for the Cowboys. One of the biggest coaching flops of all time.

Tigers problem was that after Melbourne changed the way the game was played in 06, they just didn't want to adapt. They won in 05 pretty much completely thanks to quick play-the-balls. Instead of driving forward when being tackled, they usually just fell over on purpose and quickly played it to the dummy half. After Melbourne introduced heavy wrestling, the Tigers couldn't get away with it any more, and they kinda suffered despite always having quality sides.

About time Sheens has overstayed his welcome and it's time for a fresh start and a new approach. Sheens does deserve credit for Wests premiership win in 2005 and bringing Benji, Farrah, Heighington, that winger from 2009 (forget his name) ETC but how you can next make the finals 5 years after winning the premiership. He coached some bloody good teams at Canberra which is where the bulk of his success has come. I think he is an ovverated coach. On a sidenote whoever coaches the Tigers next year should tell Benji to shut his mouth and stick to leading the team instead of bossing around the officials.

He suffered a career ending injury didn't he? Sad because he was really fun to watch.
