I pushed too hard to try to play for Australia and for Queensland.

It has set back my recovery and I feel I have let the Broncos down because I have compromised part of my club's season by wanting to play for my state and my country.

As it stands, I don't want to rush back and jeopardise playing as many games as I can for the Broncos. I'm aiming for the game against the Bulldogs at Suncorp on July 13.

It's too hard for me to play State of Origin now on July 2, even if I'm wanted. Unless something happens to Scott Prince or Johnathan Thurston pre-Origin III, I don't expect to be asked.

Good on ya Locky, would've been nice if you had the attitude that playing for the Broncos should be priority 1 back in March.

Ok so he has admitted to being selfish.

But in a sense, it showed that he still has passion and enthusiasm to play rugby league still. But he made a mistake he is human after all.

I guess if I was in Lockyers boots, I too would have tried to get back on the paddock to play for Qld and Australia too.

And plus it was his first major injury too, his enthusiasm and passion for the game probably overridden his train of thought. Knowingly he hasn't got much time left in the game he tried to get as many games in as possible. I really can't begrudge Lockyer for trying so desperately to play so soon, I too would have done the same thing regardless.

But now I am happy that he has admitted to being selfish and to get himself ready to play for the Broncos. With his passion and enthusiasm to play rugby league, this could only mean 1 good thing for us Broncos fans after the origin period. We are probably going to witness some of the best footy from Lockyer when he gains match fitness, I really can't wait.

The whole reason that he was so selfish is because of his massive drive, passion and enthusiasm for the sport. At least, that's how it looks from the outside - he's a perfectionist and a very staunch competitor.

Good to see that he's admitted it, hopefully he'll wait until he's 110% to return.

I really hold no grudge against him for wanting to represent his country in the Centenary Test. He's probably going to be retired before the next one in a century's time. And this is a big year for Origin as well, so it's a shame he couldn't do either.

I fully agree... he's a champion and I just love to see him play, no matter where and when. icon_thumbs_u

Well done Coxy! do you want a medal or a mars bar?

I don't know if I see it has selfish. Playing for your country should be the pinacle of any sporting achievement. He obviously holds great pride in wearing and captaining his country and state. Just glad to hear that he is as passionate as ever to play the game.

I hope he comes back for the Dogs game (as long as fully recovered) I'm coming down from Cairns for holidays and will be going to the game with the family. Last game I went to was at Shark park in 2000.

Isn't this something we all knew without it being officially confirmed?
I mean lets be serious, why else would he come back early for those "particular" games, before the test match and the origin?
I dont condone it, but I can understand the selfishness, he's at the back end of his career, he wanted a nice touch to his CV I dare say, albeit something like Andrew Johns would do hahah, but hey, he's given his arm and a leg to the Broncos over the years imo, and he's the reason we've won more than half our games since the glory days of the Broncos, just by merely being there and playing.

Well he kinda has....

I think that article just proves how much of a champion player he is both on and off the field!! To come out and publicly admit u made a mistake by rushing back, shows a great deal of character. He offers an apology in a sense to us the broncos fans and that is the sign of a great player who truely loves his club and their fans! This is why lockyer is one of the role models of the game!!

I was annoyed with lockyer for rushing back but from his point of view i can see why he did it. Selfosh or not everyone in his postioon would have done the same thing. If you loved your state and country as much as lockyer obvioulsty does you to would wanna be there for the big games!! Lockyer deserves to be selfish, he's given so much to league and the broncos!!

Great stuff Locky a true champion!!

It doesn't matter who you are - if you aren't able to sustain 80 minutes of full-on football, week in and week out, then you stay out until you can.

And I don't think it's a just question of selfishness, nor am I questioning Locky's integrity or commitment. To me, returning after a serious ACL injury is a simple matter of commonsense which too often means - hard as it is especially for a champion like Locky, one has to put aside a desire to play - be it for your team, state or country until medical staff say you are now right to play, as opposed to you might or could be right.

If he's aiming for the 13th of July comeback, that's only 1 more game for us without Lockyer right? Hopefully he'll be fine by then...

I reckon he should stay away until Round 19 - July 18, and then off the bench, and if he makes it through, back full time in Round 20 when Hodges returns.

There's only 5 days between Rounds 18 and 19.

If Locky is right, and Hodges gets sensible, we shouldn't be too far down the ladder to still make the 8 - just.

Can Lockyer offer his humbling services to Frankles the Tankles? Admitting one has made an error is a big thing for one's character.

Should just retire rather than make himself in to a fool. The guy is a has been. When did he last do anything good
