Dallas Johnson set to join Catalans

Johnson has terrible technique

I stopped reading your post after that statement.

Could you elaborate on this, because frankly I think DJ has one of the best tackling techniques in the NRL.

the only thing you can fault him on is he gets his head in the wrong position more than he should.

but when you probably attempt 60 tackles every single game every single week, thats gonna happen more than it does for the average player who attempts 10.

I think what m1c is getting at (poorly i must say) is that while johnson hurts more in defence, stagg slows the play the ball down more, by holding onto legs and generally just being slow in the tackle which in effect helps his team. I dont think hes saying stagg is a better tackler or defender, just that he is slower lol

AP is right. Being aggressive and going in hard is one thing, however his head positioning is terrible.. this is the first thing they teach you in tackling 101.

He is as tough as they come and I rate him as a player, but why do you think he gets so many head knocks? I would definitely not use DJ as an example to young ones on how to tackle.

His head positioning is fine, when you attempt as many tackles as he does - proper tackles not this third man in stuff that Hindmarsh, Fitzgibbon, Parker etc. do - you are bound to get more head knocks than other players.

exactly what i said in my same post as saying he gets his head in the wrong position more than other players.

its like saying that Lockyer misses more field goals than Sims - he does, but thats because he attempts a whole lot more than Sims. it doesnt mean that lockyer is a bad field goal kicker and needs to learn how to do it.

Definitely agree with the dubious head positioning at times with DJ. I'm indifferent about Stagg vs DJ but if you had to choose you might go with DJ with all the big game experience he has.

Stagg/Harrison/Johnson are interchangable imo, they are all quality. Shame to see another top line player go overseas in his prime.

Nah, no blow to Queensland. Stagg, Harrison and Luck are ready made replacements to do similar and possibly more effective jobs.

Not discrediting what Johnson has achieved in the last 4 seasons, but he's far from being a unique quality.

1 less player in the representative ranks is always a blow, no matter how high / low u rate them

Harrison, Stagg and Luck don't have the sting that Johnson does. They all have high work rates but just not the oomph he has in my opinion.

I'd have Harrison come in and play lock for Queensland now.

As a QLDer, this is pretty depressing news, he was pretty much QLD personified.

But then again it's also a blow for Melb, which is always good too.

Cronk on the bench and either Thurston or Prince at half and you've got yourself a team!

Yeah, I picked Cronk at halfback just to stir the Thurston apologists ;-)
