Darren Lockyer

Not his real debut but the legend in his first season, you can also notice a certain winger playing in the secondrow in head gear

The best player I ever saw (he and Alfie are my favourite ever players). I rate him ahead of Johns. Something that I think tends to get overlooked is the fact that he won the Golden Boot award in two different positions. What an amazing acheivement!

He walked past me during the Storm on Monday, see what the man can do even with the weather!

No player will ever be as good, it's stats alone are amazing but his pure influence on the field.

next immortal!

Andrew Johns vs. Darren Lockyer

The GOAT. No one comes close. The Kangaroos moved Johns to hooker so they could play Kimmorley at halfback. When Lockyer changed positions to five-eighth the Australian selectors didn't pick Lockyer at fullback, they told incumbent, Trent Barrett (in great form) to piss off so Lockyer could play there. Has 4 Premierships, captained Queensland to 6 straight Origin series victories, easily the greatest player in the clutch ever. **** the haters, Locky is the best.

We have no five eighth, bring him back.

He is easily the best player to ever play the game. He kicked and passed as well as Andrew Johns. He could run better and faster than Joey. He did everything better. But ask anyone who isn't a Broncos fan and Joey will always be the best ever.

On their best days, Lockyer would run rings around Johns, but the fact that the majority of NRL supporters are in NSW is all she wrote and the only reason why a pill pushing wanker like Johns was an immortal first. Locky has more class in his pinky than Johns has in his entire body.

I just knew this thread would turn into a 'Let's bash Joey and marvel at Locky' thread.

Instead of talking about someone who never played for us and never considered it let's talk about one of the greatest champions to ever pull on a boot and talk about one of our club's favourite sons.

Nobody would bash Johns if they didn't have plenty of reasons to. His skill on the footy field is unquestionable. The best NSW has ever produced. His character off the field makes that completely meaningless. Johns knew he was an important figure in the games history and to its image and he pissed that up against the wall.

It just sticks in my craw that a player like Johns who is perhaps equal at best in skill but not in character to Locky would be held in such higher esteem just because he was from NSW.

Re: Andrew Johns vs. Darren Lockyer

As Pete once said, anytime this argument comes up this is the only reasonable response:

Hardly bashing Joey. Simply using him as the benchmark the NRL and it's fans placed him on to benefit my opinion that Darren Lockyer was the best player to ever play the game.

And let's thank God/Allah, baby Jesus, Buddha, Krishna/Vishnu/Shiva, Odin, Zeus, Ra and anyone else that people pray to for this

Johns did consider it, came very close in 2001. He was even checking out houses here. Benny nearly had him.

I think a few people down south would spontaneously combust if he played for us.

Johns is the best halfback, Lockyer is the best fullback.

That's enough for me.

It was around the same time Phil Gould was supposed to be our coach? I do remember the talks.
