THE career of one of rugby league's most colourful and controversial figures is on the scrap heap. Denis Fitzgerald's 30-year reign over Parramatta has been torn down in an election bloodbath, his enemies from rebel group 3P gaining full control of the club.

In an unprecedented backlash against Fitzgerald and the current directors, all seven rebel nominees last night romped on to the board after gaining more than double the ballots of the incumbents in a bitter poll that attracted more than 2000 votes.

Hopefully the can find a way to sack him.

As I said to someone on Facebook talking about this, I still LOL at clubs in the professional era who let members (aka fans) elect the decision makers.

Privatisation FTW!

Yeah it's a bit silly, the average rugby league fan wouldn't know too much about who should run a club.

Its about time they got rid of the bloke, hes been nothing but trouble for the last 5-10 years. Surely it can't get much worse from here on in. The only way is up!

He did do some good stuff for the Eels, but I think the power got to his head and he stayed on too long.

Yep. Fitzgerald saved Parramatta from extinction when he took over in the late 80s I think it was, maybe early 90s. But everybody has an expiration date.

Now Parra can go from being a terrible club to just another sad, average, dead-end Sydney club. Bravo.
