Very interesting article from a fired-up Mal Meninga.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...y-rats-of-origin/story-e6frepbx-1226091359382

Wish he would name and shame those people.

I for one totally agree with his sentiment, which is the main reason I will keep the NSW'kers wounds open and keep pouring salt into them.

All I hear is, yeah good win blah blah, but fark Qld'ers are this and that, so...
6 IN A ROW :finger::finger::finger:

thats a great article. well written and well said Mal.

hes right - this team doesnt get the respect they deserve. remember, before this teams incredible run, the most State of Origin series wins in a row was 3. this team has 6!!!!! twice the number of the next best team, and they have the team in place to get another 3/4/5/6.

think about it - this is the top 34 players in the game fighting it out, and one team that has virtually stayed the same over the last 4/5 series has managed to just keep on winning. this, IMO, is a bigger achievement than St Georges 11 premierships on the trot. but NSW and the NSW media wont acknowledge that, and theyre just waiting for their team to win so they can call THEMSELVES the best origin team ever because they beat the Queenslanders.

Seriously guys. I don't mind Mal, but this article amounts to 'waaaaa, everyone's out to get me'. Any valid points in there are swamped by the self-pity and indignation that fills it out.
Read it again, but imagine it's Ricky Stuart writing it, and you might see what I mean.

Sure, let's just shave over anything that came from camp NSW, and call this another bad winner whine.

Fact is Carr and co. just did what was necessary to change Qld's feelings of pity towards the loser state, into sheer disgust and hatred.

You want to attack our character? Not only will we retaliate where it hurts most, but we'll keep sinking the boot in!

And no Dukey, there is no comparison possible with Sticky's whinges, because everything stated in that article by Mal is fact, not fiction...

Seriously, it doesn't take much to work up a Queenslander. This is the 10th time I have said it, and this is further proof of it. Sad really.
Give it up Rocky, you're trying too hard, seriously :wall:

Does it matter if it's fact or fiction? Mal really comes across as petulant and paranoid. Before now, he's always been above this kind of thing, but now he's lowered himself to the level of the Courier Mail/Daily Telegraph... for what? He's just won 6 Origins in a row. That's one of the greatest achievements by an Australian coach in any sport. He has nothing to prove, yet he comes out posturing like this anyway. This sort of self-indulgent waffle is very sad to see from someone who has previously presented themselves as being magnanimous.

I don't need to try hard, it's too easy to work you guys up.

I've had fun, and it gets easier and easier every year.
Yeah sure, you're having heaps of fun, and we're smarting and so upset because we won 6 in a row :duh:

But if that rocks your boat, keep attacking people's character. It just makes you more of a wanker, but definitely not less of a :loser:

and i know you guys love me and all, but i'd appreciate it if one of the admins could remove that disgusting swear word from above my avatar and also remove my username from the origin forum description - i did not consent to that, that's an abuse of admin rights.

lolz

Sorry, but it's exactly because it's fact as opposed to fiction (like Sticky's stories), that Mal's article is warranted. Besides, I don't recall Mal's middle name being Jesus, or Christ, or both.
There's no being magnanimous when your adversary has sunk to such low practices.
You reap what you sow and NSW (through some of its leaders) has done absolutely nothing worthy of respect or grace from Qld.

It may be unfair to many NSW fans, who are worthy of respect (like you imo), but if you want to blame someone, how about some introspection?

If you don't abide by my directions, I will contact the Internet Police.

Or get legal advice like Greg McCullum.

Match review committee chairman Greg McCullum said he would take legal advice over Meninga's comments about the judiciary.

"I'm aware of some of the innuendo that's in the comments that have been made, I haven't read it myself yet, but I'll be referring the issue to the NRL, the ARL and to the people that give me legal advice," he told AAP.

"That's all I'm prepared to say at the moment because I haven't read the article myself but people whose opinions I respect and respect me have indicated what was in it."

I really don't agree with this. When your adversary has sunk to new lows, you do yourself no favours by wallowing with him. If you play with pigs, you only end up dirty. For five years Mal has been the perfect statesman of the game. Almost regal. The NSW media and players have practically ignored Queensland's remarkable achievements in order to congratulated themselves for almost-winning, and Mal has simply heaped praise on his players and the people of Queensland. Now, when he has recorded a winning streak twice as long as any other Origin coach can boast, he's decided to lower himself in order to return the cheap shots that have come his way this year.
His pride is hurt, and he's lashing out at everyone he can, despite the fact that he's had the last (and ultimate) laugh.
And really, what has he said here that hasn't already been addressed by the QLD media and past players? Thurston got off, and Taylor got longer than Uate because of his challenge to the charge and his record. The papers have already chastised NSW for not naming their team before Origin III.
As for his protest that the 'powerbrokers' were attacking his ability as a coach, and saying that he's a replaceable cog in the QLD machine - who said that apart from the Telegraph? There are people on this very forum who bleed maroon and acknowledge that Mal is less a strategist and more a figurehead and motivator, and that his assistant coaches are more responsible for the particulars of the game plan. And there's no shame in that. That formula has worked for six straight years.
By constantly referring to the trials and tribulations he's suffered this year, the article comes off as petulant sniffling.
I enjoyed reading about how the series epitomised Queensland's recovery from the floods, and using the floods as an allegory for the challenges facing his team. The win meant a lot for the state, and for the players. Had he stuck to that, the article would've been uplifting.

There is a thing called the enter/return button, use it.

Sorry Kaz. To someone with a double-digit IQ those paragraphs look entirely manageable. I'll have to translate my future posts into Queenslander.

This article is SUCH a shame on the QLD team. They've won 6 straight series, Lockyer leaves a champion and yet Mal (their "coach") comes out with this whinging dribble?

Anyway - Mal just can't hack the truth. He hasn't coaches this team to 6 straight series wins - It's the guys behind him that have done the heavy lifting. (That and the fact that they have 4 of the best players in the world).

I didn't realise you were in on the inner workings of how the QLD Origin team works. It's easy to say 'Mal is just a figurehead,' but fact is the coaching staff has not remained constant over the past 6 series wins, Mal has.

We all know how good of an Origin coach Hagan was. All due respect but he was Joey's club coach and couldn't devise a plan to shut him down. Mal obviously has some nous about him and gets input from a great team of assistants, but at the end of the day he is the main man.

Anyone who says that Meninga is "just a figurehead" is an ignorant f*ckwit. How would some dip**** NSW fan who spends too much time trying to win the internet and failing, have any idea about it? Apart from taking into account what Ricky has said that is, but he wouldn't talk sh.t, would he?

What I don't get is why people think it's a problem? Most clubs these days have a "head coach" and then lots of specialised coaches who come up with game plans, attacking strategy, defensive strategy etc etc. Mal takes on that head coach role for Queensland, scouts overall talent for QLD, selects his coaching staff etc. He's no more a "figurehead" than Wayne Bennett at the Dragons!
