Down hill slide starts now......

Kiss the season goodbye. Not enough depth to last it out. Imagine if there was a second team in Brisbane. No chance from the start of the season let alone origin time......

Just now? You think our slide started last night?

The Broncos have been a shitty football team all year. They've managed to hide it with some lucky wins, and handy NRL scheduling with the draw.

Our slide began when this happened:

I don't think the wins have been lucky at all. There have been some terrific tries

As for the slide, it's not easy to compete against the best without players of the calibre of Thaiday, Hannant, Hodges, Gillett and Parker ... and a completely ineffective coaching approach to defence - yes, as always - pathetic linespeed and ineffective tackling technique and attitude

More and more it highlights to me that the Broncos for years, probably since 2006, were completely and utterly dependent on Darren Lockyer. Coaching has largely been irrelevant. It's been Lockyer that's led the Broncos on the field, driven the game plan, spotted the opportunities and inspired his teammates.

The Broncos have no leader now. The Broncos have nobody on the field with vision. Nobody on the field that has instinct. Nobody that takes the game by the balls.

The coach has issues, sure, but the Broncos just don't have any quality talent in their team. Even at full strength. Individually Hodges, Parker and Thaiday can do good things, but they're not superstars. They don't have vision.

It's time, Broncos fans. Gather up your videos of our golden age in the 90s and early 00s, and especially 2006. Find yourself a nice comfy cave. It's going to be a long hibernation before we see the warm glow of success from the maroon and gold again.

Whoever was in charge of recruitment 2 years before Lockyer retired ought to be shot

You can't expect a leader with vision on the field if you have no leader with vision in the club's recruitment staff

It still stings, seriously, it still stings! I can't stand to even think about it let alone watch it.

You mother bitches!!! Why do I keep coming back to this post?

I punched a solid wooden wall when that happened. **** me it hurt for days.

I fucking hate Sims for that night, I will never forgive the grubby POS.

Yep, every time I see his face I get angry, I can't stand to look at the douche. He's a sucky footballer too!

I remember reading this article at the start of the year and thinking, why have only 2 people predicted the Broncos to make the eight this year? Now I understand. For anyone outside of the Bronco’s fan base it must have been pretty obvious that looking at the Coach/Roster/Recruitment/Captain we just don’t have what it takes to be a top side anymore. Sure we can win a few games here and there or conjure up an upset on a good day but the Broncos of old are dead and buried, we’re no longer a powerhouse club and we’re no longer feared by rival teams.

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that our downfall occurred the season after Locky retired, his guidance on and off the field was second to none. He was our real coach right?

So while other teams continue to improve this year my guess is that the Broncos will mostly get worse, fatigue and injuries will only increase and the impact of being beaten by “weaker” sides will eventually kill morale. We should probably expect the same for 2014 as our recruitment program is completely non-existent. The only positive I can think of at the moment is that nearly every journo in the article predicted the Cowboys to make the top 4 so if they are wrong about that then maybe they’re wrong about the Broncos.

They'll pay a few ex-player to come give them a peptalk.

With all this gloom and doom, we might as well just lay down and die...

I thoroughly hate this attitude, which I have no doubt will be called "reality" by people like you. Wouldn't surprise me if that isn't exactly the way some, if not most, of those players think.

We have to pick ourselves up, shake off the dust and get fucking back on the horse.
Identify what is not working, identify what is, and plan for the future without throwing all your toys out of the cot.

These players have shown they are capable of going toe to toe with the best, so why are they playing like busteds against the weaker opposition?
I said it several times, I didn't see last night's game, but if any of what I read is true in the form how we laid down and just let them roll over us easily, that is the single most important thing that has to be corrected. Forget individual players flaws, forget talent, forget everything else. We need attitude and the Broncos spirit back in those player's heads.
Hook needs to put a serious rocket up them and make it clear by telling them: "You can't deal with it, off with your head!"

But if Hook can't motivate a team to play for the most iconic team in the best Rugby League comp in the world, than fucking off with his head!

Alternatively, you can lock yourself in a cave and keep living in the past... Yeah, that will solve it!
