The chief executive of the Parramatta Eels, Paul Osborne, is planning to take leave pending an investigation into allegations of financial irregularities and accusations of bullying.

The club plans to investigate the recovery of money owed by suppliers, contract negotiation and third-party player payments.

The Herald revealed last week Mr Osborne has borrowed a large sum of money, rumoured to be around $50,000, from Parramatta chairman Roy Spagnolo.

It was sort of like Anna Bligh taking over from Peter Beattie. A poisoned chalice. Was never going to succeed and look worse for it, even though the real damage was done long before hand.

Is going to take Parra 30 years to undo the Fitzgerald era.

A more detailed article.

The probe will address questions about Osborne and his activities in and out of the club. The areas of concern are:

* Player contracts negotiated under the Eels CEO and whether they are properly documented;
* The validity of "third party" arrangements involving players;
* The validity of sponsorship contracts;
* Recovery of money owed by suppliers;
* Negotiations about a complaint by a female employee, who has alleged Osborne bullied her;
* His management style; and
* Whether any of his activities outside the club have interfered with his ability to do the job

It takes a certain type of person to make Denis Fitzgerald look good.

I can't how many clubs in the NRL operate in an almost amateurish manner. It's not a good look for the game.

You can't help but laugh at some of the things you hear. The competition will never be a threat to the AFL as long as a large portion of clubs are run by folk with no idea.

Take the Knights for example - up until Tinkler took over, they were a complete rabble, yet in an area where they should be thriving. They're lucky everyone in Newcastle is so passionate about their footy, otherwise the Knights as a club would've been dead a good few years ago.

NRl clubs need to hire business men as CEOs. Not useless ####s.

^^^ This!

Not that there's not bad ones *cough* Bruno *Cough*, but the best CEOs are those who are businessmen first, and footy enthusiasts/former players second. Paul White. Very good footballer in his day, but has spent so much time honing his business skills and that's what he's good at.

People that have gone from player to "development officer" to other management positions in a footy club and then somehow miraculously to CEO - absolute disasters, the lot of them.

Wouldn't say he's a great CEO. He's kept the club going in the face of oncoming money disasters, only thanks to a mining magnate wanting to get on side with the local people so he can destroy more ground.

He's not going to be a proper CEO though, didn't they say that someone else would handle the financial side of things?

He's CEO of Football Operations (a title they made for him)

IMO: It's a job for the boys.

Todd Greenburg is a brilliant CEO, need more like him in the game.

Am I the only one who doesn't like this guy? He seems to get rave reviews from all corners of the media.

I've seen him on the footy show a couple of times and he just strikes me as someone who finds out what popular opinion is and then says it very loudly. Basically a politician masquerading as a business man. I'm sure he's done some good things, but I bet he's told everyone he knows about it half a dozen times.

I'm with you schmix.

Hated how they turned to him when the Storm salary cap. scandal broke as if he was a so called expert.

He is an expert, his team got caught as well.
