Favourite Non-Premiership Season?

I was inspired in the Broncos Buys thread to make this particular thread in which I'm asking all of you, what was your favourite season in which the Broncos did not emerge with a premiership?

For me it has to be 2002, just piping 2008.

I really liked our team structure with Langer returning to take over the reigns giving Lockyer time to do his own thing, our lethal backline and our decent forward pack.

Love the Newcastle game at ANZ and of course the Baby Broncos game, 2002 was also the first year I attended a Broncos game, watching us make the prelim finals in one of the best nights of Rugby League ever.

I think also as a fan 2002 was the year I made a lot of judgements on certain teams. In reading through the Middleton yearbook I've been reminded as to why I hate Parra, seriously their behaviour in the first two games of the season was damn near disgraceful.

yeah a few great things happened that year, but for me every no prem year since our first prem, i look back on with sadness. So it has to be 1990 for me, the first year we made the finals and was first place for a while winning 11 straight i think. Paul Hauff was the man at the time. I was 8 at the time, and seeing the broncos make the semis was good enough for me. and we won reserve grade grand final as well.

1999. The first half of the season was painful, but the revival was such a rollercoaster ride. So much grit in that Bronco team.

If it wasn't for the midseason revival in 1999 I don't think the Broncos would've taken out the 2000 premiership.

That was my thought too. Not to mention, I met Andrew that year at a game....you can all stop vomiting now!

2008 for me, mainly because it's the most recent in my mind.

We played some enterprising footy that year. My favourite moment was Kemp's try in the last minute against Canberra, where Lockyer kicked a beautiful diagonal ball from about halfway or something.

Close calls between 99/02/08 respectively.

02 and 08 end in absolute heartbreak though. 99 was great but way too far in the memory bank, likewise 02. 08 It is.

08 was awesome, Michael Ennis was great to watch, and we got so close to winning another premiership.

My least favourite are definitely 03/04/05. Those were depressing times. Boring attack and slumps.

My favourite GAME from a non premiership year would have to be the post origin thrashing of the Knights back in 07. However 07 turned out to be the worst year ever (aside from 2010, of course)

1990 would rank as my favourite non premiership season, this was the season the Broncos truely showed their potential with such quality depth coming through the ranks and such quality attacking capabilities and a lot more consistency during the seasons week in and week out, pennywisealfie Hauff was outstanding that season but so too was Kevin Walters who under immense pressure to perform with the Wally Lewis dramas really stepped up for us at 5/8th. Here's a great example of the football the Broncos were playing that season, up against a real powerhouse side in that era the Raiders.

I actually reckon 2007 was worse than 2010 mainly because I had some expectations with 2007 and it took until about Round 12 (or whenever the Doggies game happened) for them to live up to it. 2010 on the other hand I thought we'd do well just to keep in touch with the top 8.

Another good game from that year was the Broncos/Titans game, was the best Broncos win I've seen at Suncorp until the Broncos/Eels game a year later.

My favourite actual win is when we beat the Dragons in 2009 in the finals at Suncorp. That was such a sweet victory.

Hard to split 2002 and 2008.

2002 we were robbed of a grand final appearance by a cheating ref Harrigon, plus the match against the Knights when Tallis was sent to the bin and the Broncos were heavily penalised, Langer inspired the Broncos to a man of the match winning performance and crushed the Knights, that is my favourie victory ever. The Broncos were fun to watch that year.

2008 in hindsight we should have won the premiership if it weren't for a salary cap cheating Storm, if you take the cheats out of the comp for that year, we were the best team by a country mile.
