We're hot off the Origin series and while there's still a ton of footy to get through, if the squad had to be picked tonight, what would yours look like?

24 Players

Jack Bird
Darius Boyd
Boyd Cordner
Cooper Cronk
Andrew Fifita
Tyson Frizell
Wade Graham
Matt Gillett
Valentine Holmes
Greg Inglis
Michael Jennings
David Klemmer
James Maloney
Josh Mansour
Josh McGuire
Trent Merrin
Michael Morgan
Corey Oates
Josh Papalii
Matthew Scott
Cameron Smith
James Tedesco
Johnathan Thurston
Aaron Woods

Sounds about right.

What would your squad look like? Are there any bolters who could break into that side?

Does Bevan French qualify?

I like that kid.

I likely wouldn't play him, but bring him along just for the experience and to learn off the others.

Edit: Never mind. Just looked.

French is going to be one of those players that will be lucky to play one game.

Of course, he'd deserve to play more but because of who he plays for and the supposed flaws of his game, he won't be as lucky as others.

Certain sections, particularly of the NSW fanbase will defend these selections to the death. When he's eventually picked, well after his heyday, most likely as a fill-in, he'll be scapegoated to kingdom come.

Time is a flat circle, my friends.

I reckon Gagai might be the bolter. He was excellent in origin and is versatile.

I think that is pretty accurate. You leaves Parker and Gallen out purposely...have they already made it clear they won't be available or are you looking towards the future?

I think even after a few games back Bmoz makes my right wing! Merrin was the only selection I could disagree with but that's probably because I haven't noticed him as I'm watching their backline or RCGs awful mo! He practically wasn't considered for NSW.

Both have been tremendous servants for Australia, Gal especially but since neither will be there in 2017 it's time to go in a new direction. The only way I'd have either is if there's a few injuries in the side. In that case, I don't see the point in bringing a lesser player along.

Not a bad shout, still early days but if he continues his rich vein of form he might be too good to ignore.

Like Morris, could change over time. I'm not 100% sold on Merrin either, but the Australian side needs a lock forward and he's the best candidate moving forward.

Chris McQueen is set to switch his allegiance to England, which would rule him out for QLD and Australia for good.

Apparently, Bennett his convinced him and he has confirmed he will play for England in the Four Nations if given the chance.

Is he allowed to? I remember reading the Morris twins were under consideration for England but were banned because you aren't allowed to swap tier one nations. That said, since McQueen hasn't played for Australia, it might very well be different circumstances.

Yeah, he is allowed to.

He hasn't represented Australia yet apart from the PMXIII which doesn't count, so he can change to another Tier 1 nation.

Chris Heighington played for England after playing for Country Origin but he never played for Australia or NSW so he qualified. I just thought that with McQueen having played for Queensland would automatically rule him out for representation for the Poms.

GI out of favour?

His knees are dead set destroying his career. He hasn't hit his straps all year whether it be for Souths, Maroons or the Kangaroos.

While I can see him making the QLD team next year, I'd prefer if Australia preferred this as their Four Nations back 5:

1 Darius Boyd
2 Brett Morris
3 Will Chambers
4 Dane Gagai
5 James Tedesco

GI has been good at centre.

Neither of those players have done enough to keep him out of centre.

And Inglis hasn't been in bad enough form to be kept out of the side.

He's been alright at centre but isn't the same player we saw in 2014 and previous years.

I think Australia should look to the future and let Chambers and Gagai develop as the centre's for the next few seasons.

I know he isn't playing terrible but he isn't setting the world on fire either.

Some talk of Tom Trbojevic should be included this year, but I'm not sure where they play him. It's not the like World Cup where you get double the amount of games and you can afford to experiment.

Only two positions I can think of is left wing and right centre.

Unless Oates picks up his form, Tom could possibly end up overtaking him. Right centre could be up for grabs.

One thing is for sure, this kid is going to play for the Kangaroos at some point.

I'm tipping him to be selected for the World Cup next year.
