Mark Gasnier has been approached by a French Union side in a million $ per year deal.

He appartently has a get out clause in his contract that allows him to walk out with as little as 4 weeks notice. (Reported on 4BC)

Personally I couldn't give a flying f#@k but if you're a Dragons fan you would have to be asking how you let a player have a clause like that in a supposedly 5 year contract.

You will need to click on the headline on the left side of the main story

As a Bronco and QLDer, hopefully he takes the deal.

As an NRL fan, I'm am sooooooo f%#ken' sick of these break contracts.

Seriously, it's easier to get out of an $1million NRL contract than it is to get out of a Telstra Mobile Plan.

No doubt he or his manager said "clause goes in, or I go out".

Another example of the faults with our salary cap, if some no name team in some no name cometition has the cash to steal our players something is wrong. UK's inferior product The Super League, The French Rah-Rahs and the Qld Reds should never be in a position to out bid on our elite players, whether you like or dispise Gasnier, his leaving would be a huge lose for our great game. At what point did these two bit hack competitions over take the NRL, and at what point will our two bit hack administrators do something about it. Enough is enough if we want to continue to claim the mantle of the best club competition in the world, we;d better start by making sure we have the best players in our competition.

I believe we have structured our salary cap around the weak sides, with the fear that some teams will go broke, instead of trying to make our competion the best we have settled for mediocrity (oohhh but at least it's a close competion) The arguement of a close competion stinks, simply if every team sucks then of coarse it's going to be close competition, not exciting but close. If we have no Salary Cap the weak teams die, is this such a bad thing we all agree there's too many teams in Sydney and without a Salary Cap only the strong will survive.

The team's home stadium is Stade Jean-Bouin which has a capacity of 12,000. Guazzini made a decision to take a European quarter final match against Newcastle to the significantly larger Parc des Princes, which is literally across the street from Stade Jean-Bouin. Guazzini booked the national stadium of France, the 80,000 Stade de France for a Top 14 fixture against Toulouse. The move was successful, with 79,502 officially turning up for the game, smashing the regular season attendance record in France. At the end of the match, Guazzini announced that he had booked the venue for the Biarritz match - a rematch of the 2004-05 final. Stade Français drew an even larger crowd to the game (79,604), toppling the previous record set that same season.

After a period of much speculation, the match was taken to the Stade Charléty, remaining in Paris. On October 14, 2006, the record was broken for the third time in a row (79,619) for a championship tie against Biarritz. Stade Français booked Parc des Princes for a Heineken Cup showdown with the Sale Sharks on December 10, 2006 and drew 44,100 to see Stade win 27-16. On January 27, 2007, Stade Français set yet another French attendance record by drawing 79,741 to Stade de France for their 22-20 win over Toulouse.[5] Stade Français played their opening match of the 2007-08 season at Stade de France against Clermont; they failed to set a national attendance record this time, but still drew 75,620.[6] On March 22, 2008, they played their home match against Toulouse at Stade de France for the third straight season,[7] and set yet another record with 79,779 in attendance.[8] For the first time, Stade Français will play a third regular-season match at Stade de France in the 2007-08 season, as they have booked the venue for their June 7 match with Biarritz.

Massive crowd figures for a no-name team in a no-name comp!!!

French Union is HUGE mate...HUGE!!!! Disclaimer; I picked a random team to show stats!

Good luck to him. Been over-rated for far too long.

If this is true then league will lose yet another superstar! St George should be trying whatever possible to keep him, so should WB in that case seeing as he is heading there next year.

It also spells trouble for the Broncos, because no doubt Gasnier would be on $350k+ a year, which would certainly free up some cash to get the likes of Hannant, Ennis, Michaels, Boyd and maybe even Staggy to go there (obviously not all of them but maybe 2 or 3).

This on top of them trying to offload Jason Ryles, they are going to be cashed up to the max! Simply because these 2 (Ryles & Gasnier) basically are their salary cap, well a considerable chunk of it [icon_lol1.

$600 k per year

Danny Widearse says Gaz is owed "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in sponsorship payments, therefore chucking a tanty and eyeing a move to Froonnce.

Hahaha love it! [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

What I heard is the clause is actually that he has a period of 1 month per season during which he can negotiate with other clubs and leave if a deal is struck within that time. So basically if he doesn't take this deal within the next month, he is still committed to his St George contract until this time next year when he is open to negotiate again for a month. Still a pretty stupid clause, but I guess he (or manager) gave the club an ultimatum and they agreed to it.

I'm with you. I've just never seen the greatness in Mark Gasnier.

Exactly - he's not crap, but he's no better than several other players I've seen

And Pus Gould rates him as THE best centre he has ever seen. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

Was Gould wearing a blindfold when Meninga was playing?

Apparently the playing days of Meninga, and countless others, all came before Gould had a nip/tuck operation on his eyelid fat.
