Finch should go, can't score a run and now losing to Zimbabwe. Have Wade open, David in the lower order and Cummins captain for the world cup.

Cant blame this one solely on Finch unfortunately. Only 2 double digit scores and some ordinary shot selections and reviews both with the bat and in the field. I would agree that cummins captains the 50 over world cup but dont think wade or david are the right options (wade on age and David because hes a t20 specialist).

I guess today shows that a million all rounds is not the way to go

👏 Green take a bow… shame he couldn’t get that long awaited hundred

👏 Carey well done likewise deserved a hundred and formed a magnificent partnership with some beautifully timed shots

👏 Zampa you held your nerve

A call on finch needs to be made soon, surely?
Doubt it. It should have been made 2 years ago, and Finch is a prick of a captain for not retiring or standing down. Warner should be opening with Head or Usman.

I agree. I like Finch but we have been witnessing 2 years of this shit. His good captaining tactics argument has warn out. Retire from ODI cricket tomorrow if you can. T20 WC the squad has been picked, you can have your last hurrah. Tactically he is very good so worthwhile keeping him there for t20’s.

I don’t want to be to harsh on him either, it’s dead obvious there are internal pressures for him to stay.

Future skipper; Pat for mine isn’t a viable short format captain. Doesn’t play it enough and won’t play it enough. That really only leaves Smith as a viable option. You could argue Maxwell as he is a lock in both teams and Carey will be in the conversation (doubtful he would snag it though). Look it needs to be Smith but the execs can’t really afford the media circus that goes on with that. They get the sack (/forced to resign) very easily and I think after our 12 months of what I have forecasted underwhelming results in the biggest of competitions and series, they will all be under the pump for signing McDonald to what I believe is a 5 year contract (I’m not a fan if you couldn’t tell).

But the central point being is that the One day World Cup is to far away to just sit there and let us suffer. I have the utmost respect for Aaron he has been a major part of the set up since 2011 when he debuted. I usually let blokes like Aaron have the chance to call time on there own terms when there that accomplished but deadset the writing has been on the wall and we have been waiting for 2 years and it’s time to call it quits whilst the public haven’t completely turned (it’s happening though). Lovely bloke go play a big bash season, have one last crack at an IPL season and then get yourself a media or coaching gig. Or why not both. One thing for sure is that it is time to call it quits on One day cricket. The writing is on the wall when the commentators can’t hold out a optimistic approach on the captain of the side for the public.

Smith is no guarantee for T20 team. Has a little more of a solid case for ODI, but you can’t have him as skipper, when he isn’t a lock in either team. I really don’t think there would be that much backlash if he was to be made captain by the media.
You could go with a short term option like Maxwell before Carey or Someone else are ready.

But on a different note, Cameron Green man, what a superstar. He is going to be a very wealthy man by the time his career is done with all the contracts that he'll be getting to play in all the big leagues.

If his body can hold up. There’s a reason why generally most of the better batters have been short. Add to that he bowls, but I look forward to what his career could be.

How sharp is Australia’s batting?! Trent Boult barely even celebrating his wickets, they’re so easy & cheap

This is the problem when you got a guy opening with an obvious technical fault in his game that he's never really been able to rectify. You get a guy like Trent Boult who is well known for swinging back the new ball, Finch is a walking wicket. NZ start their innings with momentum after they dismiss our captain.

He will probably play the T20's and play a good knock somewhere and all will be forgotten, that will be mostly because in T20 team don't get 4-5 balls and over at you, you just got to knock one into the gap and with as many on the fence as possible, there's no sustained pressure.

Finch is going to ruin whatever legacy he has made for himself. If he keeps going, he will be remembered as the bloke who played on 2-3 years too long and cost Australia a chance at a WC. We have to strengthen our batting lineup.

1. Warner
2. Khawaja/Head
3. Smith
4. Marnus/Head
5. Green
6. Maxwell
7. Carey
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Hazlewood
11. Zampa

This is still 7 bowling options, and if needed can always bring in MMarsh, Stoinis or Agar for Marnus/Head.

How the hang did we get to 190🤣 I stopped following when we were 126/8

Little wonder odi cricket is dying. Williamson just blocking everything
