Gillett, Parker, Thaiday and Hannant likely for World Cup squad

Parker is the only certainty in my mind, the rest could be easily replaced with better options.

Only Thaiday will play in the tests. Unfortunately.

I hate the idea of Thaiday playing, he has done so little to deserve it over the last two years. Gillett is another one i'm not keen on, he found some good form this year and was really dangerous in attack but he still misses way too many important tackles in defence. He was among the league leaders in missed tackles and that doesn't seem like a great quality to be taking into the Test arena as a backrower.

Tell me about it. That frigging missed tackle count for the Broncos, it makes me rage every time it's mentioned. Kearney you fat piece of shit! No disrespect intended.

Gillett's missed tackle count went down big time when he moved to the left fringe between Wallace/Hunt and Reed, and became much more effective there. That's also where he played in SOO, where his defence was excellent.

That's probably where he should stay and Glenn Thaiday can fight it out for the right fringe spot...

You are right again Porhoz, I'm beginning to like the cut of your jib mate.

only parker deserves to be even selected. shows just how much rep teams are based on reputation and selectors favouritism. thaiday has been pathetic for years.

hannant is one of the most overrated players in recent history too IMO. has been a huge waste of huge dollars for us. never rated him, was nothing more than an average prop who could play the odd great game once every few months.

gillett is a joke, especially in defence.

Holy shit anonymous guy, lay it all out there, no holding back from you that's for sure. Hannant is far from the most overrated. What about Tony Williams, Adam Blair, Dave Taylor etc etc. I'm sure there are lot more out there, but I don't know enough about other teams. Hell every team probably has one or two. We could do a lot worse than Hannant, but he's definitely overpaid.

I bet you this Kennedy guy ends up the same, who knows. Gilletts defence was terrible, but since being moved it's a lot better. How much are we paying for Gillett? If it's modest than it's not that big of a deal, he's showing improvement so I am hoping next year he's getting close to what we saw from him. Otherwise next time contract renewal comes up he doesn't get an increase, and perhaps a decrease.

Can't really defend Thaiday, he's only ever really had one outstanding year and a an OK year leading up to that one.

still, it got better relative to the period of time where he was competing with Sandow for the missed tackles crown in the NRL. I did think he improved on the left but it isn't hard to tighten up defensively when you're starting from the bottom. In SOO I thought he defended a bit more up the middle or out on the right (esp. in Game 3)

but even towards the end of the year there were just too many times where he let someone bust straight through him for a break or half-break. That is the bigger problem for me, it isn't just that he rolls off a tackle or two, his misses are big misses and concede far more breaks than should be acceptable from a player of his ability.

With Gillett it is not just his missed tackles but he needs to get a lot of the brain explosions out of his game. Can remember Thurston going off at him during Origin 2 this year behind the goal line.

*one of* the most overrated. one of.

does anyone actually even rate adam blair? trex sure, hes ONE OF the most overrated as well. dave taylor? i dont agree. I think hes underrated, but very inconsistent and lazy. he showed what hes capable of on the weekend.

hannant is definitely well overpaid and overrated for what he has ever produced.

One can't be underrated if they rarely perform, this is Dave Taylors career in a nutshell.

But he was gonna be good at Souths. Then he was gonna be good at the Titans. He is one of the laziest players in NRL history.

there is merit to the idea that a player can be tagged as 'overrated' so much that he in fact becomes underrated after a period of time ... however, that argument does not apply to Dave Taylor.

Thaiday?

Good one Sheens, make him captain while you're at it for a few more laughs.

In the fair dinkum department, as others have said, the only player to be taken seriously really, is Parker. His form has been undeniable and he's probably the best Lock getting around ATM.
