BRISBANE enforcer Alex Glenn does not wish to follow Dragons-bound Ben Hunt out the door after this season, claiming he wants to be a Bronco for life.
As St George Illawarra on Monday confirmed the signing of Hunt on a five-year deal from 2018, Glenn revealed he will remain loyal to the Broncos if they want him.
Glenn is one of a number of players off contract at the end of this year and, like his teammates, is fighting to stay at Red Hill.
Hunt was also off contract with Brisbane but is the first to secure his future, following his multi-million dollar deal with the Dragons.
While Glenn said he knew players would leave, his first preference is to stay at the Broncos and to eventually retire as a one-club man.
He also wants to stay close to his Queensland-based family as he and his partner Jemma prepare to welcome their second child in March.
“I’m keeping all options open but I would love to stay here and be close to family and raise our kids close to our family,” Glenn said.
“Every player wants to be a one club man and that includes myself. I appreciate all the opportunities the Broncos have given me.
“No talks have started yet. It’s always in the back of your mind but I am just focusing on getting my shoulder right first and making sure I’m fit.
“Once the season kicks off, that’s when I can start making a statement and prove I have a lot left in me.”
Glenn said he was not surprised by how fast the first player movement had come but was “sad” to see Hunt go.
Hunt and Glenn have played together since 2008 when they were in the Broncos under-20s.
McCullough was also a part of that team and has been a close friend of Hunt’s since.
He revealed that he knew Hunt’s decision was coming and was unsure where his own future with the club lay.
He said Hunt was planning for his future and at the age of 27 it was something he had to do as well.
While his contract negotiations have not started with Brisbane, McCullough said he would be looking at all his options going forward.
“My next deal will take me to 30,” he said.
“It’s not downhill after that but there is a limited amount of time for me. This is a crucial time for me and my family. You have to be happy with your decision and comfortable too.”
While the Broncos now know they are losing Hunt, their forward stocks did receive a boost with the confirmation that Korbin Sims will play for Brisbane in 2017.
The former Broncos under-20s star has left Newcastle to join the Broncos on a two-year deal.
