Golden Point

I hate it....always have !

The whole 'slog it up and try for the drop goal' is just really boring to watch.

Make them play and extra 10.

Yeah, but it would be no different if it wasn't golden point.

It's much easier to go for a field goal than what it is to go for a try. Especially after playing 80 minutes of football.

They will just simply do what every other team does in the final 10 minutes of regular time. Go for the field goal and defend.

Yes, teams would likely just go for the field goal, but extra time is still better

The difference is it gives the opposition the right of reply, which is a right they have earned be getting there

Even if nothing else is different in that grand final, at least Brisbane have a few minutes to try and get their own field goal

They deserve that chance

I'm all for a draw in regular season games. In finals 5, mins each way then keep playing until someone scores a point any which way.

I agree with the kicking tees being made all the same height, a team should not get a n advantage from some type of over sized tee.

I go backwards and forwards on the 5 minutes each half.

On one hand, I think it basically reduces it to a field goal contest, since your time in possession is so limited.

On the other hand, 20 extra minutes could be over-kill...

One area that definitely needs to be fixed is the seven tackle set restarts. Unless you've taken a mark in your in-goal, it should just be a 20 minute quick tap option. There's enough advantage there and I never thought teams were abusing the tactic.

Yeah I agree honestly, that's the primary reason we saw a lot less grubber set plays this season, play makers are just too scared of the ball going dead, we're actually restricting our most talented players with that 7 tackle rule. I want to see Brooks putting in 5 grubbers a game for Tedesco sprinting through, not Brooks playing conservative and putting up a bomb 10 metres out just to make sure the other team don't get 7 tackles.

2 x 10min halves. Whoever has the most points at the end of that time wins. The only thing that can stop the game early is a try.

Extra time for mine. We probably wouldn't be discussing it if Hunt doesn't drop that ball, because we would have had first crack at the shootout.

None of us complained when Ben Hunt burned the Roosters. Imagine having to sit through another 6-odd minutes to see if the Roosters would strike back.

Simple solution to that and what I believe the NRL should do is the way the NFL treat extra time (overtime)

Give each team ten minutes each way unless a team scores a try (touchdown) then it is instantly game over

Asking players who have just played 80 minutes in a GF, to then continue to play another 20, is pretty bloody rough.

What do we do after ten mins eachway and it's STILL a draw?

I'd vote no to a replay.

Not if the other team kicks eight.

No one is talking about the obvious solution - a drop-goal shoot out! Each team picks five players to take a shot, if it's drawn after that we just keep moving down the roster until someone misses. All the excitement of golden point, times ten!!

Or they could look at using Freddy's Pass Off to determine the winner. Each team picks a celebrity to compete for the win!

That's stupid. We need to use look-alikes. Who looks the most like Andrew Johns wins.

I reckon 10 each way (or possibly 5 each way given the speed these days)then at the end if still deadlocked then it's a draw, point each. At least that gives both teams a good chance to win and not just get lucky.

Golden Point is crap. Golden try is the only answer

Draws for regular season games...

For finals traditional extra time 5 each way if no winner at the end of the second half of extra time it continues until there is a winner

Draws for regular season .

Semis maybe the home team or the team who finished higher takes it ?

GF extra time / golden try ?

meh I'm not convinced either . It's a toughy . No one seems to have a certain answer no wonder they came up with golden point .

If the players weren't such sooks, I wouldn't mind doing the same thing they do in Champions League. 2 legs. Obviously not for the regular season games, but in the finals.. The team with the highest aggregate after both games wins.

This would also mean that every team gets a home final..

As for the regular season games, if the scores are deadlocked at full time, it's a draw.

Get rid of Golden Point and just have extra time, 10 minutes each way until there is a winner.
