Brisbane Broncos handed Ivan Henjak a two-year contract extension, keeping him in the top coaching post until at least 2012.

The significant contract upgrade, determined during a Broncos board meeting at Red Hill on Tuesday, is a big endorsement of Henjak's impressive first season at the helm of the glamour club.

Henjak, who took the reins from 21-year foundation coach Wayne Bennett last season on an initial two-year deal, has immediately accepted the two-year extension.

A rookie NRL coach last season, Henjak guided Brisbane to a roller-coaster preliminary final finish in the six-time premiers' first season without Bennett.

The rookie head coach's poise in steadying a sinking Broncos to salvage the club's 18th straight finals berth - with a young playing squad at his command - impressed.

I'd like to see how he goes, given good support and time to get his squad right. we need to remember that it took Bennett about 5 years to win his first premiership with the club

Awesome, At this point i hope Ivans around for along time still. 1st yr on the job and he falls 1 game short of a Grand Final. Next year his gonna have the team up there again.

Good effort Henjak

The season was a little reminiscent of 1988. Surprisingly good start, then fell in a heap, then recovered. But in 1988 finishing 6th or 7th meant missing the finals, which is what happened.

He did very well to bring the team out of its slump, but why were we in it in the first place?

I think two years is about right. Interesting to see how he goes next season with such a young team.

Because we are the Broncos lol. Its just something built into the Players for some reason.

Yeah, but that was one of the worst i can remember. So credit to Ivan for managing to dig us out of that hole.

He strikes me as someone who learns from his mistakes, so hopefully he'll continue improving as a coach.

As am I, just hope he has learned when to keep to the faith with an underperforming player and when to the cut the losses.

I am pleased to see him get an extension as well. I think for a rookie coach he handled the slump fairly well and it can only improve him as a coach.

cann't be judged on this year as he had a squad where any nrl coach could have stepped in and had a decent chance of finishing in the same spot as we did. We didnt over achieve.. That not to say he is a bad coach but he didnt have a rookie side

Honestly, we've had much better sides over the years which have not performed nearly as well as our mob did in 2009.

Very happy to see Henjak get an extension. He's still young and learning as a head coach but has shown some great signs. His squad selection and use of bench rotations in particular have come a long way.

I think he's also a good fit for the culture of the club, and to be honest I'm much happier to hear him at press conferences after years of WB. As much as we all loved Wayne, he could undoubtedly make us cringe at times.

Agree with mick. I think Henjak knows the signs that led to the slump and he'll have ideas to avoid it next time. He showed a great ability to learn on the fly.

I'm happy to see him get another couple of years in the job.
