http://www.sportal.com.au/league-news-d ... eer-122233Rising Manly NRL star Will Hopoate has made the shock decision to leave the game for two years to answer a call from the Mormon missionary.
The outstanding utility back will miss the 2012 and 2013 seasons to travel with the church before returning to rugby league in 2014.
The Sea Eagles are supporting Hopoate's move and will welcome him back when his stint with the church is over.
The teenager has turned his back on lucrative offers from Parramatta, Manly and Canterbury to devote the next two years to his faith.
The 19-year-old, who made his senior representative debut for City last week, will finish off the 2011 season before joining the Mormon missionary fulltime.
Hopoate's uncle Albert undertook a similar mission after quitting the Roosters in 2008.
A kid with so much talent will now amount to nothing, I really don't understand religion and why it's felt you need to throw it all away.
