Hoppa quits NRL career

Well he debuted at age 19 in 2005 so I doubt he has.

Good on the guy but I'll believe it when I see it.

Seems a bit long these two year missions, why can't they do it while they're playing footy?.

Why can't Muslims eat Pork? Why can't Catholics eat red meat on Good Friday? Same sorta shit - OPEN YOUR MIND.
Funny though, you're asking exactly the opposite from what any religion preaches... eusa_think

Sheesh, how the bloody hell are you not permanently banned from this place yet?[/quote:1p82812g]
What for? Having an opinion.[/quote:1p82812g]

You can have an opinion without being a rednecked [/quote:1p82812g]

Yeh I could but that is no fun and I don't get reactions like I have from little insignificant weeds like yourself.

Fair enough.

Who cares anyway, good on Hoppa jr for making such a huge decision. I hope he comes back in 2 years and makes a career in the NRL. No skin of my big nose him leaving will just make it easier for the Broncos to beat Manly.

Life doesn't revolve around money and neither does happiness. If he feels he would be a happier person for doing the mission and missing out on two years then good luck to him, he still has plenty of time to earn money when he comes back.

Wise beyond your years, bp. icon_smile

Wait untill your older... Money breeds happiness, I don't care what anyone says. With a big fat bank account and it looked after properly there would be no day where you wake up sad. When was the last time you saw Bill Gates having a cry cause the phone company where ringing him up to ask when he would be able to pay.

The smart thing would be to make as much money as you can while you can while your young. And then when you have life experience under your belt and a secure financial foundation under your feet then go on your mission. At least you will have a life to look back on and learn from.

I don't know, but they seem pretty ridiculous. I mean, seriously, if your god is that great, is he really going to get upset for eating a particular food or eating it on a particular day? And what time zone does god judge you on anyway? Can you eat red meat early on Good Friday morning because where Jesus was written to have died it was still Thursday then?

As for the happiness, money might not buy it, but it sure as hell gets you a fair part of the way there. Not that it will probably matter -- he can come back after the cap has been doubled so he probably wont lose out too much in the medium term. What would really concern me though is the jeopardy it places his career in. How much is his progression going to be stunted by such a large period out of the game? By doing this I reckon he is limiting the heights he can reach in the game. Personally I think it's a little silly to do this, given as Tee suggested, he could still do something akin to a mission later on his life. But it is his choice and he's not hurting anyone, so what the hey.

And on that note, you see plenty of posts around here criticizing the likes of Carney et al. for their lack of character/integrity. Sometimes undeservedly so IMO. Well, here you have the complete opposite of that happening. So for everyone who likes to jump on Carney's back, you should probably start patting Will's.

His dad didn't do a mission due to him feeling he wasn't a good enough person. I don't think you are super pressured to do it. Mormans seem like decent enough people. Especially since it is such a bizarre form of christianity.

Well, he was correct.

This thread is an absolute disgrace. Some of the comments in here are pathetic. Not surprising coming from a bunch of meat head QLD rednecks.

Seriously, there is more to life than a hefty pay check and a first grade spot in rugby league. Good on Will Hopate for realising that.

lol... criticising the generalisations someone has made with another generalisation.

Have there been any other players who have done one of these "missions" and come back to the NRL?

I can't remember any but was also thinking, how many mormons are in the NRL these days? You never heard of players heading off for missions until 4 or 5 years ago unless I missed them all.

What's with the Reds yawnion avatars epidemic lately? [icon_shady
