Hoppa quits NRL career

Mormonism is equal with Scientology in its obviously shameful roots and existence as a money making scam. Read up about how it got started if you don't believe me. It's a shame a young guy like this has to throw two years of his life away on this enterprise.

Is this decision about money though? Not defending Mormonism here because I agree with your views on it, but since they get a percentage of your salary if you are a Mormon wouldn't Hopoate be worth more to them earning $100k+ a year than off doing some mission earning nothing?

Again, not defending anyone here but I can't see how it's about money from a Mormon point of view.

I mean the cult in general is a money making scam. Having someone with a high(ish) profile like Hopoate out there recruiting and getting the cult mentioned in the papers is nothing but good PR for them.

Look I'm sure on an individual/family basis he thinks he's doing the right thing, and good on him for that. But from an objective point of view, it's a waste of youth. I just hope he can have some educational experiences on the road so it won't turn out to be a complete throw-away of two of the best years of his life.

Have there been any other players who have done one of these "missions" and come back to the NRL?

Did Albert Hopoate come back to the Roosters, I think he is now playing for the Penrith Emus.

I'm with Rocky, mrslong and pwn on this one. Good on Hopoate for making this decision. I personally think Mormonism is weird but I respect Hopoate because it's a very difficult decision.

My brother's best friend is a Mormon and he's pretty much my little brother. He's probably one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and he never pushes his religion down anyone's throats. He hasn't done the 2-year stint yet cos I think he's doing it after Uni. His older brother's done it and he got sent somewhere in NSW. Apparently they're not allowed to ring their family except Christmas and Mother's Day. Pretty tough for a young man but it will make them stronger. So I have a lot of respect for these guys. I think Mormonism in general is weird though.

I'd rather see players like this rather than the ones that give a bad rep to Rugby League. I hope Hopoate comes back to the game and still have the same talent.

PS. Beads, wow.

What a moron.

Folaus mission doesn't seem to be going too well

It is to his bank balance. (more money he earns, the more the church gets)
