BEN Hunt has heaped the ultimate praise on his Broncos halves partner Anthony Milford, saying the gun five-eighth will be a top contender for Dally M Player of the Year.
Milford has been one of Brisbane’s best on ground in the opening two rounds of the season, helping to lead the Broncos to straight victories.
While Hunt said he was still working on not fading out of games himself, he was full of praise for his fellow playmaker, tipping the 21-year-old to have a stellar fourth season in the NRL.
“I think he’s in for his biggest year yet,” Hunt told The Courier-Mail.
“He’s trained the best I’ve ever seen him train. It’s really not going to surprise me if he’s up there for Dally M player of the year.
“I have that feeling about him. He’s right in the mix and ready to go.”
Hunt, who just missed out on the Dally M medal himself in 2014 by four points, said Milford would only make him a better player this season as their combination grew stronger.
And he is not the only teammate who believes the former Raider will be one of the game’s top players come October.
Matt Gillett said he also expects Milford to be in the running for the Dally M medal, saying he is a “freakish talent”.
“He played some pretty good footy last year, coming to a new club,” he said.
“He will feed off that and if he continues he can be up there at the end of the year.”
Milford showcased his promise for the year ahead in Friday’s clash with the Warriors, setting up two tries, kicking a field goal and making 98m off eight runs.
He also kicked a field goal in the season-opener against Parramatta, which Brisbane prop Josh McGuire said is a sign of Milford taking control of games.
The youngster only joined the Broncos at the start of last year and McGuire said his improvement is a sign he has finally settled in.
“Milly is a big part of our club and our team and I just think he’s comfortable this year,” McGuire said.
“We encourage him to play his footy and what’s in front of him.
“He’s just coming into his own. He’s a little general out there.”
