t has been revealed that a formal agreement has been struck between the organisers, Hybrid Code Pty Ltd, and ANZ Stadium for the game to played at Homebush in Sydney.Hybrid Code Pty Ltd has also opened discussions with Channel 9 and the NSW government to get the proposed match off the groudn.
Leading consulting firm, LEK Consultancy, believes the game could generate between $25 million and $40 million, with the cash-strapped NRL and ARU able to pocket between $5 million and $10 million. Of that, players would receive between $50,000 and $100,000.

e could definitely see this game sometime in the next few years, I know 90% of BHQ will #### on the idea and complain for the next 5pages about how boring union is so possibly wasting my time even posting this but none the less. Bring it on.

Forget Aus V Aus make it League Vs Union so Marshall/SBW can play.

Thurston/Marshall Vs Cooper/Genia
Beale vs Slater
Horwill vs Gallen

IMO it is a terrible idea. And why taint our precious game with their horrible game.

While I see the attraction of watching some of the stars going up against each other, I don't think it's worth it.

MEH!

I'd actually be interested to see it demonstrated. I don't think it'll take off - Leaguies love their league and Unionists love their kick and clap, scrum penalty crap, so I doubt we'd ever find a medium where both are happy.

That shocks me lol

Union scrums, league play the balls, Union Phases, Union lineouts, League point scoring (So none of this 3 points for a kick crap) 13 on the field but with a Union bench/sub system .

Union Sub system

There are 7 substitutes allowed. 15 men start on and 7 are there to be substituted. Once a player has been substitued off the field, he cannot come back on. If he is injured, he stays off and the same if hes not! The only times he can come back on is if he went off for blood and got stiched up again, or if he is in the front row, as these are specialist positions and someone inexperienced could get injured.

See problem I have is "union scrums". They are ugly, they are overly technical, they result in far too many penalties, and with only 13 a side I assume they'll be 6-man scrums?

The best thing about the channel 9 coverage was they cut out the scrums! LOL! (amateurs though, seriously)

Channel 9 need to lose the rights to all sports.

As for the scrums, I'm not sure how they would work in a combined game outside of just 1 or the other.

I think it would be dangerous to have Union scrums. League players aren't trained in it so you'd potentially have serious injuries to contend with.

Honestly, the only thing in Union I think would potentially improve league would be to introduce the line out for kicks into touch. Take away the 40-20 rule, just enforce a line out every time the ball goes into touch. That way you can potentially win the ball back. Teams without a good line out technique will be more inclined to keep the ball in play.

I'd love to see the line out in league, Izzy would have been awesome to have in your side for that.

See problem I have is "real men scrums". They are tough, they are overly technical for Union bashers, they will result in far too many penalties for dumbshit league players, and with only 13 a side I assume they'll be 6-man scrums?

Fixed.

This could be a fun thing to watch. I hope something comes of it, even if it's some one off charity event.

I wouldn't mind seeing as well

Aus (union/League combined) vs NZ (Union/League Combined)

I'm so glad Rugby League got rid of contested scrums.

One of the most boring elements of Rugby.

Line-Outs though, I'd like to see them.

Let's say Australia AND NZ got behind this, what would the Union XIII look like?

Pffft. I don't get why people want Union scrums in League.

Because league scrums are soft and boring with the team feeding the scrum winning it 99% of the time, In union its an actual contest and alot of the time lead to the feeding team losing the scrum.

Why do we need a contest in a scrum though? If you drop the ball, why should you get a scrum and a chance to win it back?!

The Aus Combined 13 would be: the Aus Kangaroos
The NZ Combined 13 would be: The NZ All Blacks
