Hello all,

Due to copyright infringements, Google has terminated adsense revenue at BHQ for the time being. We are appealing and stating our case, but there are no guarantees that Google will reinstate what is BHQ's main source of income, and essentially maintains our site free to all our members who cannot contribute or prefer not to.

The issue at hand occurred in Penny's TV Show Countdown threads, where links to illegal sources were posted in several of the countdown posts.
We accept the fact that Penny is a valued contributor and his intention was to be as thorough as possible in his much appreciated effort, not to infringe copyright laws. The admins also admit we didn't notice the infractions, as most links were valid and legitimate Youtube sources (which as such, were in the public domain).

The Countdown thread has been taken down and will only be reinstated once we have ensured all the illegal links are removed.

We want to stress this is not a public shaming of our esteemed BHQ member of long date, but a very stern warning against any piracy or other illegal material posted on this site, which will not be tolerated.
It is your responsibility to verify that anything you link to or post is not an infringement of BHQ rules. We will immediately remove any such content and infract the author, up to and including permanent banning from BHQ.

We hope everyone understands and appreciates where we are coming from, and adheres unconditionally to the above, thank you!

Were the shows any good to be worth this sort of action from Google? Or is it as simple as their robots going website with Ads + flagged link = ban income stream.

Their algorithm for this stuff is pretty comprehensive from what I understand, so at this point I assume that their bots flagged the links to sites known to harbour pirated content or access to it. I doubt the show's quality or lack thereof comes into it, as long as it's copyrighted.

If any member is unsure whether a link or material is copyrighted, please contact any admin or start a thread in staff chat so we can advise you. If you don't want to bother doing so, don't post it!

How much do you guys need to keep it up and running each year. If I had some idea I could throw some cash in. I'd hate to see it fold for the sake of a few bucks from members. No need to be too specific but what would constitute a decent offering ?

There are alternatives to google. Although this website has had two of only a few relevant ads I've ever seen on the internet.

I very much apologize for this and I've offered to Nashy that if you guys need to ban me to get in good with Google, then I can take one for the team. He has said he won't but the offer still stands if you need to.

As for the links in question, i found them by searching on google so not sure how they can attack for this when i found the links through their search engine.

Unfortunately, Google search results will include sites which breach copyrights laws, as well as sites who publish kiddie porn, so we can't really use that as an excuse.
On the other hand, a site like Youtube, which is under Google control, is a totally different thing.

As to the banning, we honestly expected nothing else from you than that offer mate, but I certainly believe you didn't intend to cause any issues or link to piracy sites, and I think I speak for the staff when I say that we won't use you as a scape goat. However, Tee has insistently been asking for a public flogging, so we'll get back to you on that... :winky:
