Injury Update - Unlucky Maranta Down Again - Broncos

LACHLAN Maranta’s season has been waylaid again after he suffered a knee injury playing Intrust Super Cup last weekend.

Maranta spent the majority of the pre-season in rehabilitation after a training injury exposed a fracture in his wrist.

It cost him surgery and any hope of making a play for the Broncos team in round one.

He has had to bide his time since, getting an opportunity as the Broncos defeated the Cowboys 21-20 in the grand final replay in round four.

But with the return of Jack Reed and Corey Oates, Maranta has been back in the Queensland Cup with the Norths Devils.

He damaged his medial ligament in the Devils’ win over Mackay last weekend, an injury that will leave him on the sidelines for six to eight weeks.

It may come back to haunt the Broncos, with Maranta’s experience required when State of Origin players are missing mid-season.

In further Intrust Super Cup injury news, both Joe Boyce and Tom Opacic went down at the weekend.

Boyce hurt a shoulder playing for Souths-Logan, an injury that will require an as-yet undetermined length of rehabilitation.

Opacic, whose affiliate club is the Redcliffe Dolphins, has a fractured eye socket and will be off the field for up to four weeks.

The Maranta injury is not ideal for us with SOO commitments coming up. If we lose Oates & Boyd at the back I was hoping him and Eden could fill in. Even if Oates doesn't get picked I would have liked him to move to the second row to cover for some of our big forwards who would be out.
