Should the Broncos go after him as our fullback for next year???

Not unless he comes on a cheap deal which he won't, so no.

Johnston is another of these players who are good wingers so they think they should be able to play in a more respected position. He’s not a fullback and is not one of the few wingers who deserve huge money.

Yeah I heard something similar like that from Gus Gould. I don't think the problem is fitting him under the salary cap at Souths. Its in terms of what he is asking for, he believes that he should be paid as a fullback when he's playing on the wing. Probably also believes he could test the market and find someone willing to pay him as a fullback. So ummmmm yeah he won't come cheap. However, he seems to play hard which is more then I can say for some of the overpaid stiffs around the league.

I'd take him on a modest deal. While he's not the greatest fullback, he's far better than anyone we have.
Agreed.
Just having someone push up in support around the middle would do our attack the world of good.

Sure Johnston isn’t a ball player and may never be, but if we played a style that suited his strengths, it could start to open up opportunities out wide.

Reality is, we aren’t even a pop-gun in attack at the moment, so just about anything would be an improvement.

But if it doesn’t work out, we’ve still got a try scoring winger. Worth the risk I say.

No.

We need leadership. Not another solid winger. Johnston is good when the rest of the spine are playing well. If they aren't, he's not the kind of player that can turn things around. We already have players like that and are far more talented then he will ever be.

He's a waste of money. Simple as that.

No thanks. Have you seen his asking price? Just bullshit. 2 million dollars and you've played 2 games
$2 million for 4 years. You can probably negotiate it down to $2mil for 5 years. He's only young with scope to improve, so you're paying for potential. Unlike Johnston, he's an actual FB specialist, they don't come cheap. Staines will be an upgrade to Boyd, Isaako, Niu, MILF.

He's completely unproven, playing off the back off a dominant Panthers team.

Plus that 4try game MBye was leaving his rookie winger completely stranded. Madge hasn't given him another shot either. Young player from Wynnum Manly who actually looked pretty decent and could recongise he was being hung out to dry by his centre.

Paying 500k a year for Staines is just completely ridiculous.

He's had a good start in the NRL in a side on top of the ladder but he is not proven by any means. He wouldn't be the first player to have a great start but then go to shit and have a nothing career. That happens quite often.

He's not really going to do anything to improve our side. We aren't suffering from a lack of talent.

Further down the track, we could sign him. But at the moment, no.

a 5 year deal for $500k a year for a guy who's played 2 games. OMG. That is such a Broncos 2020 move and a Broncos fan 2020 wishlist.

Not that we need him either, but I'd rather take a much better proven Dylan Edwards for probably similar or only slightly more money if the Panthers were intent on making Staines their Fullback.

No to Johnston. He isn't a fullback type that we need. There is a reason why souths bought Mitchell in the first place. We need to be looking more at ball playing fullbacks than run and guns. Its how our team has attacked for the past 20 years.
