COWBOYS signing Jared Kahu will not play for the club or any of its feeder teams in 2009 after walking away from the game over Christmas.

The up-and-coming half was signed by North Queensland after he played all but two games for Brisbane in their grand final charge in last year's NYC.

But a trip home to New Zealand over Christmas prompted a change of heart for the 21-year-old, who will remain in his country of birth to study. Kahu has a rugby background and only played the one season of rugby league, last year's campaign with the Broncos.

He is ineligible to play for any other club in 2009.

This is a real shame. i watched him a bit last year for they Broncos u20 side and he seamed to have a bit of talent, and considering it was his first year of league he would have only got better.

Then on the other hand if his heart isn't in it and he doesn't wanna play then it's probably best not to force him.

Amazing to here another TYC prodigy didn't crack the big leagues.

Meh, I say get rid of all the "old men" stopping the kids coming through and give the keys to the youth. They have it in spades............................

i dont think it had anything to do with the old men stopping him more just no heart for it.

yeh proberly lol the ........... kinda gave it away now that i think about it

I wasn't so much baiting as just showing this excellent (albeit sad for Kahu) example of how young proteges who seem to be great players in TYC and schoolboy RL, have a million hurdles to jump through before they are decent NRL players (like De Vere's, Gorrell's etc.*)

I got nothing against identifying young talent, I just think people should express some caution before claiming we drop proven players for unproven youth.
