Broncos confirmed on Facebook he has been released. Thank God

The Brisbane Broncos can confirm they have released Joe Ofahengaue from his contract effective immediately.

Ofahengaue, 25, played 105 games for the Club over the past six years since making his debut in Round 2, 2015 against the Sharks.

Chief Executive Paul White said: “Joe has been a big part of the Broncos for close to a decade after starting in the NYC team in 2013 and working his way into first grade at the start of 2015.

“He played in a Grand Final in his first year of NRL, something not many players have achieved, and has gone on to play for Queensland in two Origin games, as well as Tonga at international level.

“Joe has made a lot of friends during his time at the Club and he will be missed by all of us at the Broncos.

“Everyone at the Club wishes Joe, Sofi and little Mila all the best in the future.”

I'm glad he's released, but I also wish him the best, he's a good bloke. Wouldn't be mad if he came out in 2021 and killed it.
Fat chance of that. Guy comes across as arrogant on the field and immature. Doesn’t strike me as the guy who goes out and kills it on the training paddock. Too busy posing for stupid Instagram photos like he is in a Victoria Secret super model then training hard and playing even harder....

Farewell Sleepy Casino Joe

You still have a lot of potential, maybe you’ll achieve it someday.

Maybe.

Joffa isnt arrogant at all. He's a top bloke, but he does have this habit of making some very bed decisions. Think of him as a less dopey Corey Oates.

Oates is dumb but not breaking the law dumb

The situation reminds me of Jarrod Wallace. Wallace was somebody who provided plenty of value off the bench, but when he was thrown into a position of influence he struggled tremendously. The key difference is that the Broncos actually went ahead and signed Ofahengaue on an Origin salary and his form dipped tremendously. Further, the Broncos had actually come across a similar player who provided more value and is better in every facet in Haas. For mine, he's one of those players who should have been set a modest salary (300K) and if he wanted to be paid like an Origin player he needed to go to another club. I always felt like the decision to keep him and Lodge was a PR stunt to make it look like all the rats weren't fleeing the titanic.

Good move for both parties and I won't begrudge Joe if he has a similar spike in form as Wallace did.

Great news for 2022.

Ofahengaue and mbye making the origin side in recent years the way they were playing is one of the more baffling things I will never be able to understand.
