May as well make a thread on it.

I actually think we should try with Hodges at fullback again with Hoffman moving to wing to cover Copley's injury with Beale and Glenn covering the centres with who ever else Hook decides will be playing wing.

I just think it'd be great to see Hodges at fullback again where he has space and time to do things where as Hoffman would still be able to play exactly the way he does playing from wing.

Thoughts?

That's it, Hoffman could play EXACTLY the same if he was on the wing, Minichello mk 2.

I think Hodges days at the back are over, he has lost a bit of pace and isn't the same as he was in '06, would still make an interesting experiment and probably improve the side all round.

Personally I think Norman has to be fb for the long term success of our side with Hunt at 5/8, at the least I'd play Beake there for the rest of the season with Hoffman on the wing occasionally coming in field to contribute (ie he does a little bit less than he already does but gets the chance to contest bombs).

Hoffman stays at fullback. Once we get the right structure into our attacking plays and get some depth into our attacking line we should be all good. Hoffman will be a hard man to stop one on one. He breaks a shit load of tackles.

This. Hoffman's ineffective in the attacking line just like our centres, back rowers and wingers....because he gets the ball too flat, and his outside runners are also flat, and the defence is already in his face.

Sick of sounding like a broken record...we just need to get DEEPER and most of the criticisms of our attack will disappear.

No. Just no.

Our defensive combinations out wide are already of concern given the forced changes through injury. Why weaken them further by shifting Hodges? His execution has been down, but he still reads the game better than anyone out there.

As BP alluded to earlier, Hoffman needs a rest. I'm hoping Griffin is managing him accordingly.

We're on track save for a few unfortunate injuries. Defence and attitude is great, this is our primary concern. Attack is secondary.

Giving him a rest isn't a bad idea actually. He looks like he's hurting in every tackle.

Also, might be time to email all the footy shows and what not about the lack of Broncos depth in attack, maybe someone will pick it up and it'll catch Griffin's attention. :p

I don't know what it is about Hoffman but he seems to get punished every week. To his credit he mostly takes the abuse and keeps playing, but I just feel like he isn't going to see the season out. Until then he's the best option at fullback, and should stay there. He isn't the reason for the lacklustre attack, but rather his lacklustre form is the result of it. Greater depth in attack, more structure, the ability team-wide to finish a play or series off instead of spluttering to a turnover, that's what is required.

Be sure Griffin is aware of it and has decided the best way to win the comp is to field position and good D. It's a great idea if we still had Locky when we go inside 20.

I'm just hoping he has some set plays up his sleeve, we might start to see something in the next few weeks.

Hoffman has a sternum injury. No wonder he's crumpled over in pain sometimes.

Suggested on twitter how much more dynamic he could be in attack if we got deeper. Broncos retweeted. Maybe they'll tell hook? :-P

They'll only re-tweet the positive stuff. So you've got to sprinkle all the criticism with club sauce.

Well I did. I said that in the same breath as agreeing wholeheartedly that Hoffman is one of the toughest fullbacks going around :P

IDK if its just me but it seems like whenever we run the second man play hoffman always seems to crab across and eventually run out of room instead of a more arcing run where he ends up playing at the line

Said the same thing about the Maroons in games 1 & 2........game 3 we stood deeper and had more room.

7 in a row is sweet.

Hoffman would also be more effective if he were trailing Parker, Thaiday or Norman, rather than trying to chime into the backline. Either one of them regularly makes half breaks or gets an offload away.....

Tbh.... this talk about shelving him is a bit over the top. His defence is unquestionable....just needs to sort out his attack

like the rest of the team does.

Surely Griffin knows this and is just waiting to tweak it for the finals, you cant expect a set play to succeed when you're standing in a straight line with the defence on you before you get the ball.

Yes. Broken record indeed. Wish someone would listen. What I particularly liked about Lockyer was his field position, always with enough room to see a chance, move to create it, and get a play in motion. Wallace and Norman seem too often to be too flat, too far forward and to crowd and cramp space, reduce time and pressure the execution.

Hey, but ten sometimes it works. Just need more of it, and a few different set plays.

The comments earlier in the thread nailed it.

Depth is the answer to solving a few of the problems in attack. But looking at the bigger picture, we're still travelling a lot better than the majority of other clubs - the attitude in defence is the massive plus.

I wish this was still hidden away in some other thread, coz this shit is embarrassing. Hoffman was the man last year. hes in bad form, happens to everyone, even lockyer, ever langer.

Absolutely. It'll help us contain and stay in contests for a long time, but we need to get that attack right so we can put the better teams away. But it was about this time last year that the Broncos started lifting in that area, so maybe we'll see a repeat.
