:haha: Phil Rothfield, Paul Kent, Ray Hadley, Ray Warren & Roy Masters having a vote

FFS: Ray Warren gets players names wrong, Hadley, Rothfield, Kent Masters are facktards.

IMO: They will induct 2, Johns & Meninga. (Meninga will get the nod because half of the league fans, will be p!ssed off that Johns was taking recreation drugs.)

Which is a shame.

Johns should go in with Lockyer.

IMO: Johns shouldn't be an Immortal.

It used to be in the criteria, off field deeds as well, but surprise that was changed.

I can respect that opinion.

Then again, as you implied the award is a bit of a farce. Nobody would care if it wasn't called the Immortals and we should return our focus to the Hall of Fame.

On the topic of Johns being nominated for immortality, I heard someone say that players that have had any off-field incidents shouldn't be included, therefore Joey shouldn't be nominated. Remember Darren Lockyer had a few (Bulldogs joke, night at the Regetta) should this exclude him?. I think Joey will be named an immortal at some point considering he was halfback of the century and the Wally Lewis and god of Newcastle.

Everyone has an opinion and this is abit off topic but in my opinion no matter what type off guy shows up in the future no one shall surpass Darren Lockyer as number 1.

BroncosMan, do you think the Bulldogs joke & the Casablanca (:haha: Regatta...that takes me back) incident are as bad or worse than Johns taking a prohibited substance through out his career?

I know the rules are that off field behaviour or accolades shouldn't count when the votes are posted, but calling a ****wit like Johns an immortal will marr the concept of the status, and effectively make a mockery of the true legends of the game.

No. I was just saying that the claim from some that Lockyer never did anything wrong is not completley true. Yeah Johns was controversial I can admit but most high profile sportsmen and women get into some trouble at some point.

They were both nothing incidents.

Johns broke the rules.

TBH, neither Lockyer's indiscretions come close to Johns holding the game hostage.

Why are we honouring Johns again?

I can't take the immortals concept seriously with Phil Rottweiler and Paul Kent selected to be judges.

actually Johns broke the law, remember Ecstasy is Illegal.

Broncoman; the only controversial thing about Johns being named an immortal is.....the guy wasn't that good a player! I know you have watched many replays of Johns' career highlights and listen to your friends and family tell you Johns was awesome, but go look at his stats vs. games played vs. rep games. The guy couldn't even make the NSW #7 for over half his career.

Johns is a myth propagated by the NSW RL social/media circles to satisfy a NSW desire to claim that the "greatest player" comes from NSW.

Johns was a great player, I'm not taking that off him. However in my time, I've seen better NSW halves. Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, Greg Mortimer and Brad Fittler were all easily better players than Johns. In fact, if I was naming my "greatest NSW player of the last 25 years" award the shortlist would be; Sterling, Fittler, Kenny, Wayne Pearce and Bradley Clyde.

A little harsh on Ray Warren. He has been calling RL games for 40+ years. He has called all of the greats of the modern era. He should know what he is talking about

although,

I do concede his performance in recent times has been .....off.

I can't take the immortals concept seriously with Phil Rottweiler and Paul Kent selected to be judges.

Paul Kent has risen through the media whore ranks to be the biggest shit dribbler amongst a long line of NSW based shit dribblers.

Roy Masters is a senile dried up turd who is lost in his own ego bubble

Ray Hadley knows nothing about RL. He is a complete f*ckwit

Rothchild joins the Danny Weirdler, Rebecca Wilson and Paul Kent ranks as sensationalistic garbage writers. If they were left to their own devices to choose the next immortal, they would purposely chose an undeserving participant simply to sell newspapers.

This whole "Immortal" concept has been piss poorly managed from the outset. Whether that is RLW's fault or the ARL remains a question up for grabs.

I think it should have been designed to have players selected on an era by era basis. A call always comes from the ageing RL purists for players from bygone days to be selected such as Norm Proven for example. IMO once an "era" has been bypassed then there should be no going back to chose players from that era.

I know Arthur Beetson was selected after Wally Lewis and this only highlights how inept and short sighted the management for this prestigious award has been. Not discounting either player, as they both rightly hold their place amongst the immortals......but chronologically speaking, it should have been Beetson before Lewis.

I assume RLW bowed to public pressure of the time

For the current list of judges to still hold 6 RLW ex-editors/current is appalling considering how f*cked the concept has become.

Personally for mine, Mal Meninga should become the next immortal.
