Actually that doesn't sound too bad, considering the first year under him we could barely beat the bye and you can't really lay that on Kev, he didn't particularly recruit that team.

IMO, Kev has earned (genuine) 100% support until round 20 next year.

Depends on what doubt you are giving him the benefit of.

Let me be clear, there is no doubt concerning him being found wanting as an NRL head coach.

The only doubt that exists is that concerning his ability to learn the ropes of quickly turning into an NRL head coach followed by being the head coach of the Brisbane Broncos.

I suspect the many stakeholders including not only the fans, players but also sponsors and shareholders won't want him to continue learning on the job given his effort so far.

I agree that he's been found wanting as an NRL coach, but you could say the same about at least half the current coaches. In that regard, I'd be inclined to rate Kevvie at worst a very average coach.

But, of course, very average isn't good enough.

As long as we continue to improve I think Kevvie should stay. Some people have very short memories of how terrible we were in 2020.

On our current trajectory we should be finishing 4th next year (14th -> 9th -> 4th).

I know we are disappointed, but he deserves a proper chance. If we get worse next year, then talk about sacking him. We aren't different to any other club. Going from wooden spoon to title contenders will take some time.

I gave Kev a pass mark of 5, although I'll admit I did change it from 6 after some further consideration. There was more than a bit of pity in that initial mark.

The way the season ended was not acceptable, and there needs to be reviews undertaken and changes made, undoubtedly, but burning down the house to start building it all over isn't the answer, particularly after what by most measures was a successful season.

I'd be keen for a review and upgrade of assistant coaching staff. A review of the playing roster with a particular eye to moving Haas and potentially Staggs. I'd also want to see close to immediate improvement in both defense and attack from round one next year. Two years is long enough that we should be seeing a clear identity of who we are, or at least who we want to be, as a football team. Mid way through this year that seemed to be a team that would stick with the opposition and finish over the top in the second half, but they lost that, and they need to work out why.

I'm confident that next year we can give the top four a real shake. If we flounder again, then a change will need to be made.

I'm still clinging to the Kevvie train, giving him the benefit of the doubt. But here's what will make me jump off:

1. We look shit in the trials. Like we did at the start of this season. I keep hearing the trials are meaningless, but they're actually not. If you look shit in them, it's not a trick of the light, you are shit.​

2. What becomes of Billy Walters is my litmus test for where we are on the sliding scale of shit:​

a.) If Billy is trialled at 6 or 7 again, I'm out.​

b.) If the answer to why is Billy in our 17 anything other than because of injury, I'm out.​

c.) And if the answer is because he's the best option, I'm not just out but death riding Kevvie until he's gone.​

This isn't about getting success, it's about an undeserving, entitled guy, and his hangers on milking it for all it's worth.
That's the question for Kev: explain what objective metrics will see you walk away without sending your henchmen in to scream unfair. I bet you will never get an answer.
This nightmare will just go on and on and on, and when time gets called the screaming will be loud.
The only thing guaranteed is he will have as much passion as he will lack the ability to be a competitive NRL coach. He should be a club ambassador, not the coach.

The old boys want the broncos to win - they’re just so nostalgic that they think only Kev and them know what’s good for the club. We keep getting towelled up and missing the finals and they won’t continue to publicly back Kev.
