John Singleton has slammed Newcastle for "doing business like it's the 1960s" after stunning revelations the club is facing insolvency.
The Knights are reeling from a $1,288,660 loss last year - a shortfall that has prompted auditors to declare the club's future "uncertain".

Singleton, the millionaire advertising guru whose beer label Bluetongue pours $675,000 a season into the Newcastle coffers, is not a happy man.

"There's no networking, no communication - it's like doing business in the 1960s. It's pure management incompetence," Singo stormed.

$1.2m, that would be writing off Joey's exorbidant salary for the last 2 years where he hardly played wouldn't it.

Not a good thing for the game, but never liked the Knights so not to much sadness from moi. Maybe Singo can pour money in and move them to Gosford after all

The fact that the Knights board can't comfortably produce a highly successful and highly profitable business in the most League-mad city in Australia is a reflection on just how farked their management skills are.

Like putting Luke Covell in charge of Microsoft.

Seriously though, as you said, Newcastle is absolutely obsessed with Rugby League and it is beyond belief how they could fark up like this.

It's an embarrassment really. The whole club is an embarrassment if you think about some the decisions they have made over the years. Shocking stuff.

The NRL will bail them out again.

Does anyone know why the Knights crowds are way down.

How funny would it be if Newcastle died and they all had to support the Central Coast! [icon_lol1.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of fwits

Because Andrew Johns has retired.

The crowds have been dwindling for several years.

And it's not because he was injured.

It's probably because their supporter base doesn't want to pay good money to go and see a team of useless footballers. While they've had a bit of luck this season, we are only two rounds in, so I have no doubt they will return to their losing ways.

It's what they're good at, and what they know.

To be fair to the Knaughts, and I rarely am  , compared to what other club's would attract with a team that has been as poo as Newcastle have been, the crowds haven't been that bad. Last year was the only lowly standout and even it was only a good 1,000-1,500 or so off their usual numbers.

Since their last premiership season:

2001 - 17,533
2002 - 18,519
2003 - 18,298
2004 - 17,259
2005 - 18,469
2006 - 21,848
2007 - 15,880
2008 - 17,675*

Pretty consistent overall, despite the capacity increasing and decreasing several times in that period. IIRC they had to fight off the spoon a couple of times between '05 and '07, and you'd have to admit that just about any club would be over the moon with those numbers if their teams were in the a similar situation.

What happens when you put a bunch of f-wits with no financial or business idea on the board of a sporting team?

Exhibit A, Newcastle Knights.

That place needs a SERIOUS shake-up. I hate 'em, but Newie is SUCH a strong league area that it would be a damn shame for anything disastrous to happen. Wish it'd happen to one Sydney team TBH.

Harrogan's still on the board isn't he? Says it all really. Not saying that any of our former players are as intellectually challenged as the Chief, but it'd be like having Anthony Mundine running the Broncos (well, on second thoughts, that's probably a bit harsh on Chief).

The sad thing is, that was probably the first reaction there! [icon_lol1.

With the Jets A-league win, soccer is becoming more popular. The town is still footy mad, but as others have said, poor results combined with VERY poor management haven't helped numbers.
They haven't even got a leagues club yet!
