Ok guys this is more a challenge to everyone.

But for those who can watch this game again but this time look for what is wrong and give suggestions to fix it.
Now before anyone comes in going.
**** this our defence is fucked fucky fucky fucky fix defence

I would like to know what part of the defence is actually "F**ked". Can you pin point where in the line something goes wrong? Is it 2 players always running out of the line? Is it say Thaiday constantly trying with just 1 arm. Its easy to come out and say "defence is fucked" but how many people here can actually narrow it down and give a real solution.

I do expect posters like Coxy,Rocky,Queenslander,AP,Ning,Nashy and a few others will actually be able to add to this in the right way.

Marker defence is poor, there is rarely any pressure on the dummy half which gives opposition sides latitude around the ruck.

Speaking of the ruck, that defence is also weak. The defensive line sort of looks like the inside of the umbrella, far out wide but short inside.

Not enough gang tackles, so the Broncos can't dictate terms in the ruck.

Certain players are bad at sliding which makes the Broncos brittle on the fringe.

Certain players aren't strong enough to defend.

Who are those certain players? As *Coach* its your job to tell them, so in your opinion who are those players?

*thank you however this is what i intended*

Our marker defense is atrocious, so is our ability to stop second phase play, so is our ability to read defense.

Teams seem to have absolutely no trouble getting to at least the 40 metre line every time they have a set against us. No line speed and they aren't playing for each other. Not defending as a unit. Marker defence is non-existant. Opposition kickers have absolutely no pressure on them when they kick because they more often than not are on the front foot.

Defence IMO is 40% technique and 60% attitude. At the moment we are at about 10% technique and about 5% attitude IMO.

I agree 100% particularly the line speed. Out of our team only Parker and Thaiday consistently get off the line quickly, which staggers the line and when they are not the ones being confronted by the runner they are running at a stagnant line where they easily make 10m per run if not more pushing back flat footed defenders. As you say it is all about attitude and at the moment we are showing so little of it. Barba, Idris, Green and Patten had a field day going through flat footed defenders tonight.

There's no urgency to reform the defensive line once a tackle's been made. Players don't get to marker in time and quite often they're struggling to get back the 10m.

Everything stems from this because once there's a half break, the defence doesn't recover in time and we're all over the place when the other team's advancing the ball.

First things first, we need a specialist defensive coach.

Lockyer, Yow Yeh, Beale, Hoffman and Winterstein are all weak defensively.

Thaiday and Setu can't slide.

Defense is 90% motivation, 10% perspiration, 12% hallucination and the rest just luck .....

Structure Structure Structure Structure Structure

A) Our sets have no structure. The team takes each play as it goes without a common purpose for the set. This applies particularly to attacking sets (in the red zone). Our 4th tackle plays are pretty poor at times. The team will just throw the ball wherever (mostly left) without any regard for what they are trying to set up on the last tackle. There have been virtually no purposesful kicks for any of our backs all years. This, is in part, because the team isn't setting up for this. That, of course, is not to say we should only aim to score from kicks, but once 4th play comes around, that's when a structured side works it for the next one.

B) Folau - simply must be left centre. We go left all the time, so we might as well stick our best player there.

C) McCullough - must play 80 minutes. We have no structure, and this is helped even less when there are two dummy halves not knowing where the ball should go. Structure starts with the hooker.

D) Hoffman - lacks purpose in his play. Is he a playmaking fullback, a supporting one, what? At the moment he's none, and that's because we have no structure. He needs a role, and that role should be a supporting player who runs off Thaiday, Gillett and Setu.

E) Glenn - must be given a full time backrow position, or at least used exclusively there from the bench. When he slots into a different position just to accommodate a nothing interchange it detracts from our structure.

F) Ben Hunt - Simply awful so far. Must not be used as an interchange player, as he seems to have no real idea, and his introduction generally leads to McCullough coming off.

Defence;

We don't communicate - if you want to sprint up go for it but make sure the blokes beside you do the same

We don't move - If the opposition are running a play at our right side defence our guys on the left just seem to stand there and watch. It's like running up out of the line - if one side slides the other side has to follow or you leave huge holes in the middle of the park

Our little blokes tackle too high - we should be watching someone with really good technique who cuts blokes in half when they are making a 1 on 1 tackle. If you hit them in the right spot they won't get an offload away as they will hit the deck almost instantly. When he wants to Sammy has almost the best technique in the NRL - he can bring blokes down really quickly

I know plenty of people rate Griffin as a coach but I have real concerns about an under 20's coach running the defensive side of a NRL squad. We need to bite the bullet and get a defensive specialist back to the club

With our top 17 on the paddock we can score points but it all starts with defence.

1 other thing I would do as coach is give Israel an absolute rocket - the performance Idris put on tonight shows what a big kid with the right attitude can do. Bloody hell Israel get in there and help your team mates out - you are the biggest bloke on the field and could be an absolute nightmare for opposition defence out of dummy half. I know plenty of people on this forum bag Hodges but at least he puts in for the team.

That nails it. That's how we crushed the Dragoons last year. What's happened?

As for scoring points - not until we get back the depth to our line and have some creativity behind the ruck.

Agree with what has been said so far. My main gripe is the inability to wrap up the ball. I remember back when I used to play back in primary school (Modified with no boots and no markers - as was the fashion at the time like wearing an onion on your belt) our coach always taught us one low to stop them running and one around the middle to wrap up the ball. Is it hard? We're getting beaten by overcommitting on tackles because our one on one is poor, then they offload and run through the gaps.

As already has been said, defence around the ruck and marker defence is atrocious. Not sure what's the go there.

Attitude is rubbish. There are only few blokes putting in out there, and Sammy is putting in more than the whole team combined on his own, he's an absolute champion. Player of the year so far for the broncs by a longshot.

We have talent, but it's individual. Lots of new guys need lots of time together playing as a unit and Izzy (Bless him) need to learn how to pass a ball, because it never gets to the wing.

Main thing we lack is an 80min worth of attitude. It's there in spurts, but it's not enough.

Im sick of seeing three or four off loads before we make a tackle. We need to dare i say it win the wrestle better and wrap the ball up. The second and third phase ball is what is killing us. Simply putting it we have to many young players playing in their first season. I think we need to add some experiance and fire in defence. For that purpose i would have the following team next week.
1. Hoffman
2. Winter
3. Glen
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh
6. Locky
7. Hunt
8. Tronc
9. Mcclough
10. Anderson
11. Teo
12. Thaiday
13. Parker
14. Sims
15. Lui
16. Setu
17. Dodds

When Kenny and Gillet are fit then Dodds and Setu are dropped for mine.

1st: NO backs on the bench, we need to add experiance and fire in the fowards so i have added sims. (i dont care wat you Sims haters say about Q Cup and him playing crap, everytime he plays in a Broncos jersey he plays well).

2nd: I would have a meeting with the team. Let them know that they are all on notice and that missed tackles, lake of passion on the field and misstakes will not be tolerated.

3rd. I would speak to all the younger guys in the team, maybe get some of the past legends of the Broncos to come in and speak to the guys, let them know what the jersey means and that its something they have to earn. I think there is a complete lack of pride in the jersey so i think what ever can be done to restore that pride needs to be done.

4th: Need to find a way to get Folau more involved what ever it takes, i think i have only seen one bomb to his side all season.

Short of making these changes i just dont know what else could be done.

Attitude in defence is woeful not to mention our structure or planning in defence. Some very poor one on one misses tonight. The defence needs to be fixed I am not sure what Ivan has done witht the the team over the last 2 years. Nothing has changed IMO nothing has gotten better. I don't care about scoring tries I just want us to not let another team score for a whole game!!

^^^ this.

And if by some miracle our defensive line is fast, our marker defence is good, then we give away a cheap penalty and let them out of trouble anyway!
