Coach Mal Meninga, yet to lose an Origin series since starting in 2006, has made it clear he wants Lockyer to keep going.

Lockyer - who played his 31st Origin on Wednesday night - hasn't categorically ruled it out.

"I'm treating this as my last but I don't officially want to close the door," said Lockyer after another standout performance in Wednesday's match.

So it is not 100% that he is going to retire from Origin this year.

*Sorry admins but since the first topic got closed i thought it would be ok to open another. *

I knew this would happen, but for the love of all humanity he should make this his last and soley focus on Broncos next year.

For all he's given to the game, he can do whatever the hell he wants as far as I'm concerned! Give him the keys to the city while we're at it!

The old grey mare, she 'aint what she used to be, 'aint what she used to be.....

Hahaha. Lockyer man, give it up.. he'd have to be staying on just for the records now..

Im sure he can do it, but i really want him to concentrate on the broncos

Look, in an ideal world I'd love him to quit and concentrate on the broncos, but I just think that a player of his calibre deserves to do what he wants to do, not what others want him to do.

Lockyer can do whatever he feels right for him, I hope he retires from rep footy and has a final year to focus on the Broncos and helping to develop Norman and Hunt.

Like others I hope this is his last season in rep. But also agree with Emma, it's his call and he can do what he wants.

As long as he continues backing up after rep games and in good form (which he often is after rep games), it should be ok.

If he thinks he can do it, then I'm more than happy with it. He is in his best form since 2006 at the moment, and a great asset to QLD.

I would like him to retire after this series, but like others have already said he deserves to go out on his on terms and if he wants to go around again and he feels his body is up to another series he has earned that right IMO.

Agreed with most about being his choice, and good luck to him either way.

If he keeps going this way, he probably should play another SoO. It's like he's gone back in time and I'm having visions of 2006. [icon_ee

I don't care how he's playing I want him to focus on the Broncos next year :(
That being said he's definitely earned the right to play again next year however I really doubt he will, retiring after 5 straight series wins as captain is the best way possible to go out, hopefully with a whitewash.

Were quotes taken out of context though? I read that article in the paper the other day but I'm sure he said something like "I'm sure this is my last one" or along those lines...

He didn't actually win 5 straight as captain though. Just the 3 straight + 1(soon to be 2).

My bad memory at play! Well technically, he would of have been 4(soon to be 5) straight if it wasn't for injury.

A lot of people saying he should finish rep football to concentrate on the Broncos. I haven't seen anything yet this year to say that he isn't 100% committed to the Broncos. We'll obviously see how his form holds up over the next few weeks during the Origin series, but I am almost certain he'll probably even play better.
