Since the Great Darren Lockyer's topic is locked, I'll just post this here:

Although not in the Broncos interest, Locky has made himself available for another full rep season, and IMO he has more than deserved to right to decide what's best for him.
Now there's not much new in this, but what definitely deserves a mention is how Locky beat everyone in a fitness test according to the below article... [icon_ee

His fitness doesn't surprise me actually, if theres one thing about Lockyer he has shown over the years is that he won't lie down and be told that his not upto the task or his past it and given the criticism he copped at the end of the year for what happened to Australia in the four nations, Lockyer will be out to prove his still got it and I'd happily back him every single time.

Totally agreed about Lockyer, but let's not forget he's 33, going on 34.
What this tells me is that the younger players around him don't put in the effort, because otherwise they should beat him...

Locky's always been fast and with great endurance, so it doesn't surprise me that he won the 1200m test. Youth doesn't necessarily mean they're better over any distance.

Hell, Wayne Bennett still holds most of the records for the long distance cross country runs the club does in preseason [icon_lol1.

As for Locky putting his hand up for another year of rep, for me it's the same as last year. I'd prefer he hang the boots up, purely from a Broncos perspective, but like you have no problem with him making the decision when enough's enough.

I prefer that he's made the decision now rather than waiting until 7 weeks in like he did last season. That was an unnecessary distraction IMO.

Locky is past it, he has nothing to offer rep sides and he is purely being selfish.

Good on him but I would have loved to have seen him devote one season to the Broncos.

One more premiership with Locky and we'd all be happy

Two more, we would be ecstatic :)

Wow he is starting to look old..

He has a hat on covering his bald head. That's the youngest he's looked in YEARS.

The grumpy look on his face makes him look pretty old

Nice article about the champion:

Darren Lockyer's team-mates and adversaries have marvelled at his longevity, suggesting the champion five-eighth could continue playing until he is 40.

Lockyer kicks off his 17th season this weekend, linking with long-time coach Wayne Bennett as captain of the NRL All Stars side to play the Indigenous All Stars at Robina.

It is a union that started when Lockyer was a teenager and which netted both premiership, State of Origin and Test successes before Bennett left the Broncos to coach St George Illawarra in 2009.

Wests Tigers and New Zealand international Benji Marshall, whom Lockyer refers to as his nemesis following World Cup and Four Nations finals losses to the Kiwis, regards playing alongside his childhood hero on Saturday night as a great honour.

"For a guy who's been targeted over his entire career with the big boys running at him and tackling him, to go 17 seasons - that's an unbelievable achievement," he said.

"I feel privileged when I play against him and even more honoured in this type of showpiece game to play alongside him."
