Mason no longer a Rooster

yes he is still a rooster. False title.

If i was Mason I would stay out the season, he'll still get paid his massive 400k contract he would be stupid to go.

Oh and some golden quotes from the dickhead that is Willie Mason.

* Nov 2, 2007 - ""I'm prepared to take a $350,000 pay cut and play for match payments only. If it came down to money and playing for another club I'd be more than happy to play next year for match payments only."

Quote:
* Nov 15, 2007 - "I can't believe he called me a bad influence on the younger players - I've been a good influence on those kids.

"He wouldn't have half the team there if it wasn't for me. We'll see what influence he has when half his team leaves next year. Then you'll see what type of influence I had over the club."

Quote:
* April 1, 2009 - ""I'm very happy at the club. I have got two years here and if I feel good after the contract and feel like I can compete in Australia at the top level I want to re-sign with the Roosters," Mason said. "Nick Politis (club chairman) rang me straight away and laughed it off and said he is never going to get rid of me."

February 4, 2008 - "I just think the smart bloke that Brad Fittler is and the people he's got around him, he can improve my game a hell of a lot," Mason said.

Quote:
April 4, 2008 - But the outspoken forward couldn't resist a nibble, claiming he already had benefited from spending just five months working under Roosters coach Brad Fittler.

"More life skills I suppose, (Fittler's) a bit more of a mentor," Mason said of Fittler's tutelage.

"He's taught me to be a better person, a lot more humble and getting my life outside of football in order."

Agreed. Can't say I feel sorry for him because it is clearly a business decision and if anything they are being upfront about it.
I certainly would not let them out of a 400k salary owing easy though. Has every right to stand his ground in that aspect IMO.

Absolutely, just like a club can force players to stay(well sort of) players can force a club to keep them.

He may not be a Rooster after this year, but he'll always be a ****.

I would play for Newton for $400k for 1 year.

I think that is the smartest choice on his behalf. Get away from the scrutiny and all that as well I suppose. If the deal was 200 then you would probably try harder to look for deals but honestly I can't see any other clubs offering him 400 right now......

He's had 2 good seasons out of 8 or something. Not good enough...

Taking the money and sitting around all year would be a very short-term decision. Assuming he backs himself to regain form (and if he doesn't, then no-one else will), he's better off playing the year for a lot less and giving himself a chance to get a decent contract in 2011.

If he doesn't play at all this year, or plays reserve grade, no club in their right mind will offer him more than a cheap, one year, "let's see what you can do" contract in 2011.

Well, he turns 30 this year so the next contract he signs will probably be his last.

+1.

Unless he goes to rugby union in Japan (he'd be 4 foot higher than anybody else in the comp) or Europe, in which case even a low contract would probably match a decent NRL contract.

He's 30 and has been shit for ages. I don't think he can regain his form and I believe it's smarter for him short or long term to get the 400k this year and use it wisely. Who would want a 30 year old trouble maker with rubbish form for 2 years in a row, let alone give him a decent contract..

Yeh chase a union deal if possible e.g maybe 250-300k for 3 years which is obviously better than 400k for one year.

See this is when you've pissed all your contract money away in your twenties you're left with nutta. e.g Matua. (Spelling).

link?

Channel 9 said its believed he is about to as he said no to the knights. But still havent seen anything 100%

Sports Tonight on 4BC, they spoke to Cowboys CEO. He said they are waiting for the Roosters to release him. In saying that it's pretty well confirmed.
