Some interesting discussion on the Broncos site from the Menbers Forum.
In particular, Hook's reasoning as to why we won't be chasing JT, the long term plan to have Macca play 80 minutes, and some other tidbits.

Awesome!

That's what I want to see from the Broncos, more interaction with us fans so we know what exactly we're getting behind.

I'm fine with most of what was said.

Top 25 has been finalised but the second tier is yet to be finalised has stirred my curiosity.

Far out, this is exactly what I've been wanting to hear from White & Griffin.

Definitely puts me in my place when the head management gives you some answers.

Some pretty dumb questions in that lot. I think Hook nailed in regards to Thurston and McCullough playing 80mins.

Particularly in regards to McCullough. I've been asking that question half the season......finally got an answer.

Soooo.......you can join that forum and ask your own questions, to Hook, Gee or other management? Is that how it works?

Couldn't help but notice nothing was asked about Peter Wallace .......

awesome stuff. where do the questions come from? if this has been done before i havent seen it. would be nice to make it reasonably regular thing.

its great they encourage people to go down to training for signatures etc. i think alot of people actually wouldnt realise they can do this.

Just as we deny going after JT, this story pops up lol.

"We believe the Broncos will have a crack at Thurston despite what they are saying publicly," the Cowboys insider said.

"We are hearing it from too many places for it to be dismissed as just a baseless rumour. JT is the best playmaker in the game, he grew up in Brisbane and it would make sense for them (the Broncos) to try and sign him.

Thurston is a very short term fix IMO. I don't think we will go after him. We should have went hard at Cherry-Evans.

i think the cowboys will have to work hard to keep thurston. im sure he loves it but its not like they're the only team he's ever played for. he's not from there. there would certainly be a temptation to move back home. plus depending what he wants to do after football - it would be better for him to be in sydney or brisbane to get more involved in footy media.

id happily have him if it didnt mean losing too much existing talent. imo he would have to pair with either hunt or norman so that by the time thurston retired, whoever it was of those two (or any other youngun coming through) would have a strong enough game to take the full reigns. pairing him with wallace would just leave us completely screwed in a few years time.

1 norman
2 copes
3 yow yeh/hoffman
4 hodges
5 maranta/yow yeh
6 thurston
7 hunt

theres also kahu to throw in the mix

Seriously guys. They have all but said they are not going after him.

which means they probably are :P

in reality, i highly doubt we are. just a point of discussion.

i wouldnt be at all surprised to see thurston leave cowboys though.

agree with this. If the Broncos decide they need a marquee 6 or 7 in the next couple of years, the smart play would be to go for someone with more "tomorrows" than "yesterdays" ... Yeah wouldn't be at all surprised if Thurston does play out his career somewhere other than NQ - it'll be the last BIG contract he probably signs and wouldn't surprise if the cowboys struggle to match what some clubs put to him.

can't see the sense from the Broncos' point of view in paying a fortune for someone like Thurston for maybe two seasons, at the expense of two or three decent young players. In two years time when the fun's all over, you're potentially up sh*t creek.

When the storm scandal happened, and inglis looked like leaving, the Broncos said they weren't interested.

Couple of months later we'd "signed" him.

Don't take Broncos saying they're not interested in JT as gospel

Yeah, but they didn't exactly say they weren't interested, then discuss the reasons why.

Actually they kinda did. They said they were happy with the current squad and kids coming through, blah blah.

A few weeks ago they said our halves were on notice. They basically failed since then and now all of a sudden we're sticking with them over Thurston. I don't know if we are really interested in JT but assume 95% of what our club says publicly is just BS.

I've got no problems with a short term fix. Successful seasons stay with you for a while. 2011, 2008 and especially 2006 I still remember fondly.
