Is there a new rule this season where a defender can't make ANY contact with a kicker? Tonights Eels vs Bunnies game a Souths player hit Brett Finch almost exactly when the ball left his foot, Finch was knocked over from the impact, and the hit was not high.

and that new rule where u can move a player back as much as u want in a tackle unless his legs are off the ground? wont that just make players lift their legs up to get penalties.

and how havent i mentioned this yet....

did anyone see the call last week where preston campbell caught the ball from a kick off, was about to go over the deadball line, so through it up in the air, stepped out, stepped back in, and regathered before it hit the ground and the ref gave the opposition a penalty for "deliberately throwing the ball forward"!!! hodges did it last year and it was lauded as the coolest thing ever. is that a new rule?? its fucking stupid

^^ Nope I'm pretty sure it's always been like that, but because hodges was like the first one to do it, refs didn't really remember it lol.

The silly thing is that rule was bought in to stop players throwing the ball over the head of opposing players (the defense then couldn't tackle the player as he didn't have possession of the ball ) and catching the ball behind the defensive line. Totally different to why it is used today.

Just on the Eels/Bunnies game...

Did anyone see the dive Hayne (yet again) took?

Hell yes. He got my vote for Cat of the Week.

Diver McDivey Dive I tell you, he's my least favourite player these days [icon_thumbs_do [icon_thumbs_do

The rule of no contact with the kickers is ridiculous and all these "protecting the players" rules that are around these days are turning me off Rugby League. I just don't want to watch it as much..... [icon_confu

It was a shocker - he could at least TRY to make it less obvious couldn't he?! Though until someone can prove he's taking a dive and has words with him, why bother I guess? So long as he's happy being known as a cat, which he clearly is.

Am i the only one concerned by the dive that folau took on the weekend? Hopefully im wrong and he was genuinely in need of a stay down, but looked like a bit of a dive to me :(

Looked like a dive to me too. He looked fine when they zoomed in on him, then he got up, and was as good as ever.

worrying, i thought that would leave the broncos once ennis left

I at first thought he took a dive, but after seeing a replay I think he copped a knee in the back. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt....for now. If it seems as though he's making a habit of it, then I won't be happy.

Folau was hurt right in front of us. He looked physically dodgy for a few plays after play restarted. Trainer was with him treating him in the background.

Maybe it looked worse on TV? ie, you see him down, then you see him hitting the ball up or making a tackle. In reality he spent most of that time being treated.

Didn't Brett Stewart also score a try last year where he deliberatly knocked the ball over an opposition player? Was trying to regather a kick from memory, and tapped the ball forward over the players head. Again, it was lauded as the best move ever by a type 1 diabetic. This was certainly more successful than the next time he tried to tap his balls on/over someones head
