EXCLUSIVE: Rival networks Ten and Seven have been told this morning that Nine and Fox Sports have retained the NRL broadcasting rights for the next five years.

A formal announcement by Nine is expected within the next 24 hours where it will be revealed whether the game has secured the anticipated deal of $1 billion.

Ten and Seven were buoyant about their chances of pinching the rights but the ARL Commission has decided to continue using the incumbeent broadcasters.

Damn it.

We will still hear Rabs & Gus arguing & doing promos for all of the shows on 9 during the call.

Booo-urns

Hope they didn't just look at the numbers and considered the whole of the bids.

Any idea how much the last deal was worth?

As long as the game receives the $1 billion it's happy days as far as I'm concerned.

The Herald was told that FoxSports will pay $100 million per year, with Nine to pay $80 million.

With the New Zealand television rights also being negotiated, it is understood the deal will be worth more than $1 billion.
___________
Fox sport just said rumours, is that it was worth about 1 billion.

Not happy Jan

I hope that part of the deal includes a clause stating they need to drastically improve their coverage.

foxtel better get the damn online rights!

The online deal is what I'm holding out for as well.

From my understanding, Telstra are basically sitting on a vault of footage and are taking down any youtube vid they can find.

I am on a blog with League Central & I have asked.

Waiting to see if it gets published & answered. lol

Not if the coverage stays virtually the same Pete, which at this point in time seems to be the case.

The current coverage situation of the game is nothing short of pathetic for a variety of reasons.

The coverage will the the same shit, just that they paid more for it.

Looks that way doesn't it. More of the same old boys we get every year.

Looking forward to the press conference. Will be gutted if there's no fixed scheduling and simulcasted games on Fox Sports.

I have to log off the blog

Some of the comments, are making me go ape-shit

League Central:
If they don't put another team in SEQ, possibly at Ipswich, they're crazy. Play them out of Suncorp and cut into the Broncos' monopoly. Did you see last week they hope to have 36,000 paid-up members in five years; that'll kill Sydney clubs for years.

League Central:
Look, Nine does some good things for the game but one of them is NOT the scheduling of Friday games. The bias towards the Broncos is disgusting and plenty of people in SEQ would rather watch anything except the Broncos nearly every week.

Last one, I asked for the link to the poll.

So far, I haven't been published. hahaha

The NRL will hold a press conference this morning to announce the deal worth $1 billion.

Under the new agreement, Nine will retain all representative games and three free-to-air matches per week.

Fox Sports will continue with five games per week, including Monday Night Football.

so is anything even changing? this is the same as it already is. ffs. sounds like a load of bullshit to me.

Unless 7 & 9 were going to share the rights, FTA coverage was always going to be shoddy.

AFL fans have similar problems to us.

I disagree.

Live FTA nationwide, all games Live/simulcast on Fox nationwide for Vicky Kicky.

Us? We get what we've pretty much always had. 1 live and a couple of delayed games in two states.

Still, in 2012 and in the middle of the most one-eyed Rugby League region in Australia, I can watch every single Swans game live, as well as a plethora of other games. The Storm have been in the comp for 14 years and they are lucky to be shown before midnight.

At the moment, it seems like absolutely nothing has changed but the money component. We were always going to get the money, the part that needing fixing was the coverage, quality of coverage and exposure the game receives.

So much for progress.

On face value it looks like more of the same but I'll wait for the presser before going on that hunch.

 well when you put it like that JW.

I'll be keen to check out the press conference before going too crazy. The dollar figure is still a huge positive.

If this deal has all QLD teams live on 9 I'll be happy.
