It was upthebroncs upthebroncs Think he saw him win an award once and jumped on the hype train
I’ve known him for years.. He was just relevant at the time I was speaking about him on here. He’s talented, experienced and costs nothing. Fair signing.

He has the same philosophy as the Titans recruitment team.
I’d definitely do a better job, but I didn’t mind their signings of Jai Arrow and Tanah Boyd. They failed to keep Arrow because they failed to build a team around him that was worth staying for. Neil Henry was building a fairly well balanced team before the Hayne signing. They did just need a couple of marquee signings but Hayne and Ash Taylor were definitely the wrong ones.

Listening to TK's podcast with Anthony Griffin and I just learned that the reason Ivan Henjak was moved on was because the club thought they had signed Bennett for 2012. Supposedly the Broncos thought they had a deal by February 2011, which is why Henjak was moved on and Griffin was only supposed to be the interim coach. Then by April, Bennett announced he had signed a three year deal with Newcastle and the Broncos stayed with Hook.

There were always rumours of Bennett returning, but I didn't realise it went that far. If anything I thought Souths were the only other club with a realistic chance of signing him.

The other interesting story is that when Hook became the 20s coach, the Broncos really didn't throw too much support behind it and they just handed him a bunch of school leavers. One of the few exceptions was Alex Glenn, so he brought over Josh Hoffman and Michael Spence from Redcliffe. Gillo was playing for Wests around that time, but I wouldn't have been shocked if Hook brought him into the 20s either since Matt was a Redcliffe junior in 06.

Not that Hook should get all the credit for his first grade career, after Gillo bailed on the team for Wests, Hook told him he'd never play first grade.

The Courier Mail (and DT) are reporting that the NRL have softened their stance on Shane Flanagan.

he isn't eligible to be a head coach again until the end of 2021, but the reports are that the NRL would consider an application from the Dragons (or another club) if they wanted to appoint him as head coach before then

How surprising, the NRL going soft on a totally warranted penalty. The. They wonder why players keep getting up to stupid stuff.

Why do they even need to consider softening the stance. He watched over a systematic teamwide drug cheating scandal, broke the salary cap and then felt entitled enough to break the rules around his suspension... but a Sydney team is in trouble... oh better help them out then.

Did the dragons also want the NRL to pay out Mary for them (who they signed at the start of last year).. wait they already do with a $13m grant

Of course they have, fucking hell.

Who was it that questioned the media circle jerk of V'landys and said that we would need to wait and see if he is any different to all the other fuckwits? My sincerest apologies to you, it hasn't even been a week and this guy has shown he is no better at all, arguably worse.

It's simple mate. The Dragons are a 'good guy' club and he's fine to Coach there again. He just wasn't allowed to Coach at the Sharks again because they're very much a 'bad guy' club.

Vince McMahon must be on speed dial at NRL HQ these days.

It's all well and good to applaud V'Landys for his decisiveness and effectiveness in getting things done, but those attributes are far easier to demonstrate when you have a media driven mandate for widespread changes, and then that same media literally trips over itself to provide positive coverage for any and all changes and decisions you make.

How many former NRL CEO's, or any sporting CEO for that matter could say they have ever received such widespread and emphatic media support so early on and so conclusively?

It would be foolish and naive to think this level of blanket media support was given out because V'Landys is just a good bloke, or because he is honestly just that good at his job. Media companies never, ever do anything that isn't first and foremost in their own self interest, and I have no doubt they've obviously been given some pretty firm assurances that there is something very sweet in it for them if they can not only stay out of V'Landys road, but basically act as a cheer squad for the current administration day in and day out.

Anyone watch 360 last night.

Paul Kent went within a whisker of saying **** and just pulled it back after the c u was out.

Very funny stuff. Would that have been the end of his fox career or is the show not live.

It can't be live, these guys can't control their mouths any longer than a pre-schooler.

But seriously, why put yourself through anything NRL-related that isn't actually a game or from Chris Garry?

I wanted to be proven wrong, so badly. The fact we still haven't been given clarity around the NRL TV rights deal still concerns me so much.

Same reason I come on here I guess.
Every now then you get something worthwhile.
