NRL looking at radical changes.

I would like to see it trialed first just to get a full feel of it but I agree, the idea of 100 minutes of Rugby League with more media coverage sounds like a win/win for everyone on the surface.

Of course the NRL should address certain things about the media coverage because right now the personalities they have covering the game have their own agendas and aren't putting the product first.

I'm not talking about all of them but the likes of Brad Fittler, Brett Finch, Darren Lockyer, Tim Gilbert, Ray Hadley, Ray Warren, Scott Prince etc have no business covering the sport and they need to bring in more professionals to make it more worthwhile.

100 minutes is not going to sit well with a lot of families. There are a large number of complaints about families not being able to take their kids because of how late they get back, which has had an impact on ticket sales. This could just make it worse. I can't see it taking off.

I don't like the idea. I don't exactly like the idea of getting back home at 1-2 am in the morning when I leave the footy. If they are going to have this, they need to put the games on an earlier time slot.

Plus, I think it could take the fatigue factor out of the game and I don't like that idea to be honest.

I hope it never happens. There are far more important issues the NRL need to fix.

Whenever I look on social media or just out at games, all I hear are complaints about the refs, the match review committee and judiciary, the expensive ticket prices, the TV coverage etc..

These are the things that are driving people away from the game.

Charging more for some half arsed half time entertainment is a dumb idea.people come to the football to watch football, they should be working as hard as possible to reduce ticket cost to bring the game back to the true owners. The fans.

I find the draw part interesting. I sent the below to the NRL in an email around 6 months ago ...........

Dear NRL,
Like all other fans i have talked to, I am of the opinion that the draw structure needs revamping.
To this end i have a suggestion i would like to offer for your consideration. First off remembering there are 16 teams and 26
rounds(including 2 byes each) with 1 test (The Anzac Test) and 3 state of origins
I propose that the the draw could works as follows.

*Each teams plays all other teams once
*Teams finishing in top 8 previous year play each other again
*Teams finishing in bottom 8 previous year play each other again
*The test match and state of origins are played on the weekend( i suggest Saturday Night) as stand alone fixtures

This structure still allows for a 26 weeks season so the season would still kick off at the same time of year. I understand Channel 9
has the TV rights therefore has a great amount input in this decision. I can only state that i consider their ratings would only improve
as i feel more people would enjoy the saturday night origins. This structure also benefits the players greatly as they get a greater chance to play for their teams if they suffer a small injury in Test Matches or Origins, Those that dont recieve the honor of playing origin get to have 4 weekend off in their season

I believe this structure adds to the fairness of the competition for ALL teams as the can field their best available team
each weekend and gives the bottom 8 teams a greater chance of advancing to the final series ( a great way to encourage struggling clubs ).

Many thanks for considering my suggestions
..........

Any thoughts?

Stop fucking with football. Why can't we just have a competition that follows the rules of footy.

More advertising? I don't care, league goes for 80 mins with a 10 min break in the middle.

How about making some simple rule changes to make the game more consistent and easier to referee.

If anything, the public's attention span is shorter.

Also, a second Brisbane team consistently stays on the agenda.

**** oath! The game aint broke. Dont fix it. I dont understand why, if they bring in quarter time breaks, why do they want to increase the bench from 4 to 8?! If anything, adding more breaks should reduce the number of interchanges, not increase it! So dumb

Next step after the 4x 25 minute quarters is 6 points between the posts and 1 point either side. Yeah we are getting into afl territory. And a 8 man bench, lets just be like the NFL and get a 53 man roster why don't we
And if I wanted to see a half assed band, I would go to a music festival not the fucking football

- 12 teams
- full home and away season
- origin on standalone weekends

thats all they need to do to make the game much better. reduces "player burnout", gets an even draw, and lessens the impact the pinnacle of the game has on the regular season.

The game is fine as it is, just needs some minor tweaks.

~ 16 Teams (4 QLD, 8 NSW, 1 NZ, 1 ACT, 1 VIC, 1 WA)
~ 8 Live NRL games a week, Three on Channel 9, Five on Fox Sports
~ 1x Thursday Night - 1x Friday Night - 3x Saturday Afternoon/Night - 2x Sunday Afternoon/Night - 1x Monday Night
~ 26 Rounds (Improved schedule to lessen affects of travelling on Non-NSW & Non-QLD teams)
~ State of Origin on 3 standalone weekends in June
~ Games remain at 80 minutes, with a slightly longer break in between halves (15 minutes)
~ Interchange increased from 4 to 6
~ Interchanges allowed per game decreased from 10 to 8

I think overall this would increase the quality of football drastically, as well as increase viewing numbers with every game being live and exclusive, the crowd numbers on Thursday & Monday night won't be great, each team should play no less than 3 Thursday (or) Monday night games and no more than 4, to make sure there's no favouritism.

I'm not a fan of quarter football and 100 minute games. I feel that the game length is fine and it always has been. Just extend the halftime break. Players are professional athletes who should just harden up live with the fact that this is what you put yourself through if you want to be a professional Rugby League player.

Things I would do to improve the game

- play origin, city country and tests on a stand alone weekend to improve the quality of premiership games
- reduce ticket prices
- get rid of the 1 punch rule. I fucking hate this fucking rule. It's just turning games into shitfights and niggling matches. Just let the players throw them and cop the consequences after it
- play every game live on tv
- Expand the game to Western Australia and include the central coast Bears
- improve the standard of referring.

I really think a second NZ team is important for the game. Look at how well the Warriors u20s do!

There's the talent there for a second team and I think will allow more young kiwis to get a shot at nrl, particularly as I imagine some wouldn't be willing to come here to pursue their careers.

For tv, Perth is obviously vital and a second brisbane area team too. Kick out the sharks and I'm fine with that 18 team composition.

For TV the second Brissy team is important and Perth is a no brainer, but I'd certainly also favour a second NZ team (Wellington), now that the game is really growing there, and as Aris says, to take advantage of the talented youth coming through.

There is no place for another NSW'kers team if we want to grow the game. I'd rather see a PNG team come in, than bringing the fucking Bears back.

I would love to see a PNG team in the NRL as much as anyone but they will need support from everybody if they were to stay afloat and be competive to any extent. There still needs to be a lot of work done in PNG before they were to have a serious bid. You must remember that PNG is nothing like Australia at all and is a poor country that has little development for juniors and if they were put in next year (if they were) they would get flogged by everybody.

The Bears have plenty of community support, support from everybody, a strong junior base, plenty of signed members, a stadium, and would be capable of putting a competive team on the field early. If the weather was sunny in Gosford in 1998 North Sydney would still be playing in the NRL and continuing their history since 1908.

Brisbane has a strong junior base and a stadium, and I have no doubts a new club would achieve members. Perth bid already has lots of supporters and they have a whole fucking state as a base. Not to be outdone, Wellington has half a country as it's base, no shortage of potential supporters and a stadium.

There's simply no fucking way a forward looking administration allows the Central Coast to come in before those teams.

I agree that PNG is a long, long way off though.

-They need to ban blockers on kicks. It's unfair and poorly ruled upon.
- Shoulder charges should be legal as long as no contact is made with the head. What's the difference between an attacking player running forward and using their shoulder?
-Saturday afternoon games. Like 2 o'clock.
-6:45 kick off on friday with two live games. If two Friday night games are held in Sydney they must be double headers at the one stadium.
-Faster play the balls.
-Captains challenge
-I don't like this not allowed to talk to the refs business. That was the whole idea of having a captain. Otherwise there is no use in having one. Both the players and the refs need to be more respectful towards each other.
-Every player should be allowed one punch on Josh Reynolds per game.
-One ref please! Too many different opinions on what is happening means a lot of the calls are ridiculous and make no sense.
-Video refs should be able to rule on forward passes. I don't even get why that is a thing?
