I've been working on trying to get the video off the disc. The disc is not in great shape.

There is a possibility I may not be able to make highlight videos of a fair few 2008 games.
 
Broncos vs Dragons 2001 Semi Final 2001, one of Sailor's last games for us, had an absolute blinder that night.

This is painful to watch for two reasons. 1, because losing Civo is easily one of the top things that has disappointed me the most in league and 2, Tallis. Holy shit he sounds absolutely terrible in commentary here.

Gordie is very terrible. I don't know if you have seen the whole game, but he gets even worse than what shows in that video. People thought Gould and Rabs dribble on about shit...

With these 2008 games, what's painful for me to watch is the Lockyer, Hunt & Hodges combo. We will never see that again...

That game really showed that Nathan Blacklock would've been a Nathan Merritt at Origin level. Blacklock was controversially overlooked in 2001 mainly for his weak defence and size and the fact he would've been marking Wendell. The Dell destroyed Tingha almost every time they opposed I think.

I can only remember that game because it was just 4 days after September 11 and the world was in turmoil

Good memory Bman. I've never connotised that game or even that finals series with what happened on September 11. All I remember is that the Broncos were comfortably beaten in the first week of the finals and I thought that was us for the year. This game came as a huge surprise for me and apart of me thought that if Gordie could return the next week, we could beat Parra.

He didn't and we were beaten by 8 in a pretty controversial game where the Broncos fought until the end.

Anyways, loving these 2008 videos.

I remember the build up to the Panthers game fairly well. There was a lot of interest surrounding our new recruits heading into that game and I remember reading that we were going to be in more trouble than we were in 2007. Apparently the Broncos nearly got beaten by the Dolphins and the future was looking very poor.

I still think they went into this game as favourites because the Panthers were a rabble and had a halves pairing of Frank Pritchard & Joe Williams or something similar but it was going to be an UGLY win if anything.

However it was anything but and the Broncos played a really enjoyable expansive style of football and it was a nice afternoon out. Everything the fans wanted to see happened and things looked positive moving forward.

Panthers ended up having a very tough rebuilding year.

Meanwhile the Cowboys game was frustrating. Traditionally that would have been one of those games where the Broncos rack up 40-50+ but they seemingly pulled the pin with 30 to go and the Cowboys made us look pretty stupid at times.

It was also the game where I thought there was something seriously wrong with Watts. A shame because the guy could play footy but he was just a major germ and it's really not that big a shock to see him in his state these days.

Watts had the potential to be an absolutely awesome impact player, but he chose do be a massive douche instead.
 
I'm pretty sure Bennett was unhappy after that game with how the Broncos let Cowboys back into the game.

I thought Broncos would have toweled them. They were missing Thurston and they lost Graham early on.

They dominated them in the first half, it really wasn't a contest. Cowboys never really looked like scoring.

In the second half, the discipline wasn't that good. Broncos forwards were dropping too much ball and giving away too many silly penalties. I think Weston dropping that ball was a turning point in the game. After that, they weren't playing patient footy. They were forcing passes when they should have held the ball and they were dropping balls. They kept trying to come up with the Hail Mary play instead of applying pressure and the Broncos defense had them pretty well covered.

If they had Thurston, it's a whole different game.

That was a good night.

Despite being a season ticket holder that year, I decided against going to that game because I'd never seen the Broncos beat the Dragons, even when by rights they should have flogged them (2003).

So I watched the game in a pub with a bunch of mates instead. Drank everytime a try was scored (I was still pretty thirsty) and was really excited about the possibilities of next week.

Then Fien snapped Wallace's ankles and I knew that was our season.

Oh well, we knocked off the minor premiers, I can live with that after that Raiders game a few months prior.

Rest of the night was sweet.
 
I'll have a few more 2008 games uploaded in the next few days. Including Broncos vs Eels.

Internet is slow until I pay the bill.
