Are you saying unless the fans go to games then don't count them in the membership tally? If so that's a bit backwards, I live way down in NSW so I hardly catch any games, seems silly to not count fans like that.

Yes that's what I'm saying, Say souths have 30,000 members but only 8,000 are ticketed but Brisbane have 20,000 and 15,000 are ticketed. Why is the team with a half empty stadium classed as the best supported club over one with barely an empty seat?

Where is the encouragement to get supports in the gates when all they need to do is a buy newsletter membership to be on the tally? Push the game memberships even if it's one game at a time. I'm not saying drop the simple memberships, just don't use them to boast about ya tally.

I'm all for teasing opposition teams. I can't say I find this funny because I actually don't hate Souths at all, they're neutral for me. I just hate those Melbourne players.

I hate Souths, I think they're lame, and I wish they had been kicked out when they originally were. But this, I personally don't think it's funny. Others may well find it funny however.

The NRL originally started by only including ticketed memberships into their totals. Then the Dragons started offering 3 game packages to just games at Win or Win Jubilee and included it to their ticketed memberships while most teams only had the full 12 (we had 14 due to reciprocal rights with other teams that played at ANZ) game ticketed memberships, then some dropped down to 6 game packages and finally to 3 to compete. Then the clubs started showing all their membership totals to boost the total compared to the AFL and show the membership support had grown seeing as the lines had blurred between ticketed and none ticketed memberships anyway. Paying $90 for a non ticketed membership or paying $150 for a 3 game ticketed membership doesn't make much difference in the end.

In defence of Souths. We have a lot of fans and members outside of the Sydney metro area. So they might get a ticketed membership but can only attend so many matches a year. They still do it as they know their $180+ is going into the clubs bank balance and is basic cash injection, as we don't have a leagues club to prop us up and competing against several teams in Sydney for corporate money.

I am always puzzled to where our fans are on game day. This has been out best season in a very long time and the crowds are extremely low to last year and the draw might be the issue. Sydney fans are very different to AFL fans and having the draw all mapped out actually has backfired.

I can shed some light on where the crowds vs tally are a bit different. I have a GA season ticket for a seat I never sit in. My girlfriend's mum has 5 season tickets (she has always had 5 season tickets since before Souths were kicked out). One of those tickets is the seat I sit in but the seat isn't in my name. We considered changing the name on the ticket but were worried of any issues that might occur if we did.

So, that is 2 season tickets that are part of the "total" that don't get scanned each week. Yet the owners of those seats are still at the game. Now consider every family that does something similar. You have lost 2000 or more off your attendance.

At the end of the day I couldn't care what that membership tally is, it is really just a way for clubs to increase a cash injection and an NRL VS AFL gloat. I would rather see 30k Rabbitohs fans at EACH home game every week that cheered for their team as passionately as I do each week.
